I like games where you can raise your level as much or as little as you want. You can rush through the game if you want but it'll be very hard because you haven't levelled up enough. Of if you want an easier game, you just spend a few hours fighting enemies to raise your levels quickly. It gets tedious but thats the price to pay for being able to see the later parts of the game without much skill.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

Agreed, Bass X0. Games with grinding opportunities offer a great way for pretty much anybody to get through them without just giving the progress away.

I do like games that operate this way -- you can go out of your way to make things easier for yourself in the long run, or you can set low-level challenges for yourself that can really be fun. :3

Developers aren't obligated to do anything, but maybe they should be obligated to make a game fun since that's what really matters when it comes down to games.

Hard games can be fun. Just like how playing a sport can be fun even if you don't win.

this. people are spoiled nowadays, having grown up earning ribbons for just participating and everyone comes home with a trophy from a tournament, even the losers. the idea that there is still enjoyment in a game you do not win something from is totally foreign to kids today, and it's a damn shame.

Terrible comparison. If you lose at a sporting match, you still get the experience of the whole match - you play from start to finish.

If a game is too hard for you, you don't get to experience it to the end, and as a result the experience is frustrating.

I enjoy sports of all kinds, even if I'm terrible and fail miserably. I hate certain genres of games because I personally find them too difficult (platformers, for one), because all I have is an unfinished game.

Don't underestimate the value of closure. That's the reason some people prefer to avoid diffficult games - they don't want to risk not being able to finish the game.

yikes, i should've said 'a game you do not win something from immediately' -- practice makes perfect, after all, and kids today don't want to put in the time and effort we used to put in back in the day. instant gratification ftl.

That's true, and I agree with you that kids should not be given trophies just for participation - it's a terrible trend to wrap them up in cotton wool.

But I do think games are a different story - there's a large group of us (me included) that don't want to be challenged to frustration by a game - that's our relax time, after all.

I don't necessarily think being critical of people who don't want ultra-hard games is healthy to the growth of the gaming industry.

I don't mind hard games, as long as it's justifiable. The Bit.Trip series, for example, is just a little too hard for me, and it's not worth playing the same thing over and over until I get it down. I just wish some games would have an "easy" mode, like Sin and Punishment or Viewtiful Joe, when the main game is really hard.

I guess that's true, but if closure is so valuable to you, why would you quit so easily just because its hard? If anything it should make you work harder. Of course, I wouldn't know. I don't care if I finish a game or not. What I don't understand most is why people don't think they should work for what they want. If it's difficult, just try harder. You only suck at it because you haven't practiced enough. Personally, I can't think of anything more rewarding than overcoming a difficult challenge, because then you get to look back and see how much you wanted to quit, but be proud that you never did.

personally, the frustration factor of video games is what keeps me interested in a lot of games. it's kind of like this "I WILL NOT BE DEFEATED!" mentality that makes games like Mega Man and the Bit.Trip series more and more addicting with each death.

sorry i couldnt help but laugh when i read this. you sound like my kindergarten teacher. games are hard for the better. i dont want to spend 50 dollars on a game that i can breeze through in an hour without losing once. but i get where youre coming from. i suggest playing online browser games, those are short and generally pretty easy

Viewtiful Joe does have an easy mode. its easy mode is called "Kids" and its hard mode is called "Adults." and then theres "Rated V" mode which is like expert and "Ultra Rated V" mode which is hell on earth

and Sin and Punishment 2 does have n easy mode also, but i dont know about SaP one

If the game is so difficult that I can't even pass one of the beginning levels, then yes, I hate it as well.
