Getting chilly here in West Viriginia.
It shouldn't be too bad here in Charleston.
It's not a huge deal to me if the power goes out, but the problem is, everyone lines up the gas stations and buys all the food out of the grocery stores like it's the end of the world, when I'm just trying to make it to work and back, and buy my weekly groceries.

@Kaiser: Well, to have this kind of weather you need to be near the sea, and arizona is not the beachiest place in the world. @Zach: Arizona is about as safe as every other US state, what has any of that have to do with weather, though?
We're definitely going to receive our fair share of wind and rain here in Upstate NY, but the (likely) loss of power is our biggest concern right now. My house is going into this assuming that it'll be the 2003 northeast blackouts all over again. We've stocked up enough water and non-perishable food to last us several days, and our gasline should be fine, so we'll be fortunate enough to have heat too. Just as importantly, I've fully charged up my Kindle, portable DVD player, laptop, 3DS, DS Lite and even my old GBA SP, for always pressing entertainment purposes.
Even more importantly, for all you people near the coast, stay warm and stay safe. Good luck.
@WingedFish Yeah I heard that too, as I live in Ohio also(I don't remember if you knew that or not)I also hope we don't lose power. I think we're getting hit by the edges of it.
The latest I've heard is that my area could be without power for as many as ten days after the storm hits us. I really hope it doesn't come to that, obviously.

I'm in Nova Scotia, and we're just supposed to get like 15 mm of rain tomorrow and 20-30 mm on Wednesday, so just a ho-hum rainstorm for us. I'm prepared in case there's a power outage, but I doubt it will even trouble us that much. For people living along the coast in the northeastern US, this storm looks crazy bad though — hope people manage to get out of the way of it and it doesn't cause too much damage.

Yeah, it looks like one of the swirling "arms" is going to swipe us. I just really hope we don't have a repeat of this summer black out, that was terrible...

I was safe in NC over the weekend with just a bit of wind and some VERY light sprinkles. Lots of (sometimes heavy) rain now though. Not sure if it's related to Sandy. I haven't heard from the family I've got up near ShadJV's neck of the woods (Malone, Brusthon, Moira, Watertown, etc.) yet, but I should probably give them a call before it gets too bad.
Good luck everyone!
Like I said, it shouldn't get too bad here, though closes are closed and events canceled in the area, so it wouldn't hurt to check in on your family. Still, I'd be very surprised if there's any flooding or noticeable damages.
As for people that might get hit worse, I do wish everyone safety and my sympathy goes out to people that have been heavily affected.

Brave The hurricane, my Eastern Seaboard gamers! It's not too often you guys get a storm that far north. Living on the Gulf Coast I've had my fair share of hurricanes, so my best advice is to play smart because even a category 1 hurricane like Sandy can be devastating. From the pictures and videos I'm seeing of the storm so far I'm glad you guys aren't getting the blunt winds of a cat 4 or 5. Best of Luck!!!!

Whew thanks. I'm really nervous. I'm in Canada and I'm barely getting hit and I'm super worried for people deeper in the storm. Several of my relatives are in New Jersey and I'm worried. and for whatever reason the heads of the school districts are still thinking about school tomorrow, that's insane! A bunch of kids going to school in a hurricane!?
I suppose it could be worse though, I'm not going to lie, the hurricane itself isn't that bad and I'm barely getting hit, but still it really sucks and it's worrying me.
At first I assumed we'd just get a little rain and a few gusts but the news is talking about power outages and flooding and being prepared and now I'm kinda freaked out.
I just hope the people getting worse are safe.
Also I shudder to think about a cat5 hurricane.
