Topic: How would you rate videogaming to other hobbies?

A topic was recently brought up "Is Gaming a Hobby?" which somewhat evolved into how people compare their other hobbies to videogaming, but it was difficult to steer the conversation that way. So I wanted to start a new conversation where people can discuss where gaming fits into their lives compared to other hobbies. Are movies your priority and gaming a distant third? Or how has videogaming inspired your other hobbies, such as drawing, cosplaying, painting, writing, singing, collecting etc...

Cooking is my only hobby... and it wasn't inspired by cooking mama.

It's more interactive than TV watching, but less fulfilling than Drawing, nor is it as healthy as excesizing. Those are the only hobbies I know.

I for one love music, and videogaming has opened my interests in specific instruments. I recently got an ocarina due to OoT. I prefer painting over gaming, but prefer gaming over movies, and i prefer sculpting over music. Videogames have influenced my writing by forcing me to ask myself "how would i have handled that scenario?" while not fanfiction, themes and concepts have carried over.

That;s great and all, but not something I think I can relate to. I haven't played a single game that feuled my imagination the way Movies or Anime have, and I'm big on coming up with my own stories.

I've come to like different instruments just from listening to different kinds of music, and I think that how a lot of people do it, too. I've also come to like different art styles from TV and just going to different art sites. It just feels more direct.

I mean, I've seen art and music inspired by games, and I have respect for that stuff, I even draw fanart from time to time (drew a slime while I was bored just last week, just for something quick and easy), but other than that, I rely on other sources for inspiration, and even some of my biggest gamer friends do, too. It's just not something I'm big on.

All else I do is music and cooking... And since I wouldn't exactly call what I do with studying music a 'hobby', and I cook to live... Um yeah, Video Games > all

Actually, nevermind what I said. I just realized I spend most of my time wasting my life on the internet, that's my biggest 'hobby' Dx

i'm not asking anyone to relate at all. what inspires your hobbies? thats what is ultimately interesting. what music has inspired you or led you to different instruments? in what way has art emotionally drove you to your particular art style? have your tastes in a specific art style or music genre influenced a game you bought? the sheer fact that videogames haven't inspired your other hobbies is in itself interesting. anyway, thats the convo i'm trying to get going here :/

Please, this can be discussed in the other thread — it doesn't need a thread all its own running concurrently. Thank you! :3
