I must admit I too was surprised by Old School's comments. It's pretty harmless here in comparison to other sites.

I think this site is pretty good but :

A : lacks consistency on who can say what - the outspoken negatives get more breaks than evenhanded posters, even when they are not being rational, or are making emotional arguments on nonemotional topics. They get the benfit of the doubt, while some are more likely to be labeled as 'fanboys' or 'trolls'.

B. Too much off topic posting.

C. Political gaming trend opinions and attitudes accepted as conventional wisdom and fact.

But nothings perfect, this is a good site cause it has so many good posters, very fun to read topics here!

My 2 cents.

Ben Cartwright: You and your education.
Adam Cartwright: Education is progress! Now what have you got against it?
Ben Cartwright: I don't have anything against education - as long as it doesn't interfere with your thinking!

Quite a funny clip, but honestly, just a bit of maturity would go miles. Especially in this forum. A good amount of posts seem to be tabloid journalism, no sources and no data backing the statements. There is a large amount of mindless posts. And the larges amount of flaming and trolling I have seen to date.

lol, i suggest you try and visit some other forums for a while... we'll be here when you come running back, don't worry.

Eugene, is that you hiding behind another Dickens-based username? I thought you were beyond that. :/

If you really don't know who Trogdor is, I must insist you click here. After doing so and finding it HILARIOUS, you are free to while away many hours exploring the awesome website I have just introduced to you.

Umm... come to think of it, why the heck wouldn't you recognize Trogdor when you see him? SBCG4AP, man! You have no excuse!

I've seen Homestar Runner; but I guess the characters aren't ingrained in my consciousness enough to recognize them on sight. It's not really my cup of tea, hence my unapologetic skippage of the Strong Bad games.

tsk tsk tsk, Chicken... definitely (in my humblest of opinions ;D ) the best point and clicks on the Wii. better than Sam and Max, or the Monkey Isand games.

Excellent video and too true. I myself have been guilty of posting just to stir people up (though I've resisted that tendency here since I'm supposed to <Judge Dredd>Uphold the law!</Judge Dredd> For example I never post in a thread talking about a given game series just to say "I thought that sucked; I didn't like it" unless the topic is actually asking for an opinion on the game. And like the video says posting "it sucks" as your entire post is a giant waste of time and I guarantee if someone reports a post like that to me it gets deleted.

I think going off-topic is one of the bigger problems we have; folk who consistently do that get some heat. As far as meaningless threads go, well, that's largely the purpose of General Discussion forum, though I agree we do tend to get a disproportionate number of "Help me spend xxxx points" or "recommend me a game" posts. Thankfully I've not seen the threads which plague the other forum I contribute to most (TrekBBS) "Tell/Convince me why I should like XXX" which I find really really really tedious and I guarantee I will lock if I ever see one of those rear its ugly head here.

@Chicken Brutus: Funny, I thought Homestar Runner stuff would be right up your alley, sense-of-humor-wise. Guess I was wrong. Shrug It's one of MY favorite things ever, though, as shown by my Trogdor T-shirt and hoodie (catch me on the right day, and I might wear BOTH, for an AWESOME layered look).

@Sean Aaron: I think we DID have one such thread once, actually. "Convince me to get a PS3" or something of the sort. It went just fine, as I recall, though that may be because the OP actually wanted one and just needed a little reassurance, as opposed to being a stubborn 360 fanboy from the get-go.

@Sean_Aaron: And the off-topic thing is why I like general threads like the one Gabe started. It's meant for people like me who have a tendency to get off-topic to discuss pretty much anything.

I agree with those "Convince me to buy a ...." becoming irritating. I think that if you are interested in buying something, do some research, factual and opinionated. Find some threads about what you want and see what people said.

Love the comic, hate the film. Now if someone would make a GOOD game a la Rogue Trooper, that would be amazing!

To continue off topic, in the 'how to behave in forums' topic. That movie sucked! But I hold out hope for the new one, it's got Alex Garland behind it, the guy who wrote the scripts for Sunshine and 28 Days Later, two very good films. Here's hoping.

sorry to keep dragging this off topic (we can has PM system now plz?), lol, but i found some links that seem to be relevant to our interests, Sean Aaron:
New Judge Dredd movie in the works
'Judge Dredd' feature film update
Alex Garland completes Judge Dredd screenplay?
IMDB also has a page for it, but there's no public information up there at the moment because it seems to be currently slated for a 2012 release.

@Blackdragon- Love that. Did those pictures with cats talking this way inspire you?

By the way...I saw the origional Judge Dredd a long while back, but I don't remember not liking it. I'll have to see it again. It is cool that they're coming out with a new one though.

@longtimegamer: i liek teh kittiez :3

in all honesty, though, i do think a PM system would go a long way toward being able to successfully enforce any 'stay on topic within threads' rule. It would also help to cut down on the short threads directed at individuals in particular; people would be able to have their little tangent-based conversations in private, and that would be the end of having to wade through them on the forums proper.
