Topic: How old is your computer?

A two months old laptop from Lenovo, which is a laptop brand of IBM.

It does everything it needs. Games are the most demanding thing for a PC, but I am more of a console type of person so I don't bother if the latest games don't run as smoothly as they could.

My computer is about 6-7 years old. it's old, dirty, and brown but it surprisingly does what i want it to do. (watch videos, loads up some sites pretty speedy) Just need to defragment it every while and it'll still go strong. It still has it's computer bugs that computers get when it's old but oh well.

Mine, I don't know. Its a hand-me-down Pentium 3, but I'm guessing around a couple of years and still is running Win2k and needs a upgrade.

I'll be happy to get the latest, with Win7.

I have an awful Acer Aspire 4920G laptop that can't run most computer games and crashes randomly. Man, do I need a new and better laptop.

@Kingbuilder
I have almost the same type but instead of a 4920g its a 5315. I use it mainly to watch videos and posting on this site so I have no problems with it....yet. Its around 1 and a half years old and its still going strong. Some of the keys stick every now and again, but I know all it needs is a little of that compressed air to fix that right up.

Firefox isn't that bad, actually its much better. IE is the worst, it loaded incredibly slow when I was logging into justin.tv for the chat during Megaman. I had a unexpected technical difficulty, I didn't bother to log back in because of my issues, darn that laptop, it may be more updated but it needs Firefox, Pentium 4 w/ XP, its a shared computer. (Why the heck does my dad have to be so symbiotic with his new laptop w/ Win7.)

The case is about 6yrs old, but the stuff inside is not.

For you maybe, but for me it's the best browser around and has been for a while. If it's slow, blame your computer (and perhaps, your inability to keep it clean) before the software.

My PC was pretty baseline specs when it was bought 5 years ago. I've upgraded it a little, but not much. 2Ghz single-core AMD Athlon, 1Gb RAM, 128Mb graphics, 120Gb harddrive.
My laptop is brand new and much better; 2.2Ghz Dual-Core (64-bit) Intel Celeron, 2Gb RAM, ~800Mb graphics (Mobile Intel Express Chipset, eww), 140Gb harddrive.

De-fragmenting every day is serious overkill and could be doing more harm than good. What's more important is making sure you have no virus' or malware that are slowing down your browser and that the host-files are as they should be.

I'm not sure why Firefox is slow for you, it could be due to one of many reasons. Fact is, Firefox is awesome and allows me to have much more control than Chrome ever could. I'll admit, Chrome is slightly faster, but I am uncomfortable with how much information it stores and uploads.

I have AVG the free anti virus on my Laptop and do scans atleast once two weeks.
It says there is no viruse's or malware.

I think it could be my connection,I got 1MB and am getting it upgraded to 8MB soon so I'll tell you if its the connection or not.

Ouch dude! AVG Free is not safe. D: I got stung by that a few years back and lost a whole hard drive full of tunes.

Grab this, this, this (careful with that one, 'tis powerful), and maybe this too. All free, all tested (by me). I imagine they will find things that AVG does not.

If you can't be bothered with all that, just make sure you replace AVG Free with MSE (the 1st link). Trust me, I speak from experience. I had my host-files changed and AVG ignored it for months.

I second what Machu said. Had the paid-for version of AVG, didn't renew it and got Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes instead.

AVG is fine, I've used it since 7's early release, plus the computer shop I used to work at sold the commercial product (sold a lot better then Norton Anti-performance, that's for certain). It's good to have secondary options for malware and spyware removal though because the freeware version doesn't cover the two that well. Malware Bytes is by far the best out there, but run it in safe mode for most effective removal. I used a admin tool when I worked at the shop called ComboFix, I warn you it will remove anything that finds the slightest bit of harmful code whatsoever so if you have the ability to clone or backup your OS, files etc.. I would do so. If not I would strongly suggest not using this software and hope that Malware Bytes does the job. Matter of fact, ComboFix should be run in safe mode as well, I have a system for taking care of these things in one go.

Safemode >> Malware Bytes [if anything found it will reset on removal of files so make sure when you hit F8 again to go back into safe mode] >> ComboFix [same deal as Malware Bytes] >> AVG [if both find things AVG will pick up the rest].

One other thing, CCleaner isn't for viral removal, it just removes temporary files from you computer and provides shortcuts to registry removal for outdated applications and cached files. Unless you know if you have a viral registry key and know it's whereabouts then CCleaner won't help you at all. It's nice to have if you'd rather use it too remove software (XP uninstall prompt was slow and this program made it a lot more efficient to do so).

AVG might be ok, but AVG Free is not, that's all I was referring to. Now Microsoft are on the case, fortunately there is no need for all these tricksy free anti-virus programs, which there are a lot.

Nice one for suggesting ccleaner though. I love that lil program.

Yeah, it's pretty good. I'm rather impressed with Piriform's software, especilly their disk defragmentation software (Defraggler). It's certainly does a better job then the defragmentation software the comes with Windows Vista / Seven.
