As a kid from the 80's and 90's, like others have commented, I only got games from my parents for birthdays and Christmas. I was truly lucky in what I received. When the SNES came out my stepdad was laid off from his job at Texas Instruments. He still bought me an SNES for my birthday. He was still out of work at the time, so I can only imagine what a financial strain that was. Thanks to that, I was the first kid on my block to have a Super Nintendo.

As far as games went, I was lucky again in that most of my family loved Nintendo. My aunts, uncles, cousins, and even my grandfather all loved to play. Christmas morning would usually end with getting four or five games. Birthdays I usually got a game or two from my parents and money from my extended family. I would usually buy another game or two with that. I worked mowing lawns in the summer for a game or two more. I usually rented a game or two on the weekends and my friends and I would share games. So, I got to play quite a bit. Lucky kid!

One birthday when i turned 11 i had a Ninja turtle themed birthday. I got a turtle shirt a turtle cake, the turtle sewer playset and TMNT 3 the manhattan project for my Nes! I was happier than a pig in slop! The year before that i got the Batman movie game. Still i usually had to wait for holidays to even get one game but it felt that much more special when i did get one! I miss those days alot.
