Usually batteries have something like 500 recharge cycles, so it depends on how much you're using it, but after 10 years batteries usually aren't in great shape regardless of how easy you go on them. I just leave my GamePad plugged in the majority of the time, since I'll wind up having to plug it in all-too-soon anyway, so I honestly won't care when the battery dies, since I can still just leave it plugged in.
