Topic: How is Nintendo better than other companies when it comes to games?

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm the opposite of a hater. I just realised that I'm woefully under-prepared were I to ever get into an argument with one.
My one question is about Nintendo 'rehashes'. What makes one Mario game different from the last? I can't place my finger on it exactly, so answers are greatly appreciated!

To address the title: ~90%+ of Nintendo games are well-received and high quality, and Nintendo has a history of quality game-making dating back to the late 80s. Also, it depends on personal taste for many fans.

Just don't start a conversation with "Nintendo sux haha" and you'll be fine

Well, for one thing, considering all "Mario" games as the same is quite ignorant. Mario games span across several genres and types. A 2D Mario is certainly not the same as a Mario Kart or 3D Mario game. Now, if we were to group them accordingly, some Mario games can be fairly viewed as rehashes or simple sequels. The biggest offender is the New Super Mario Bros series.

Other Mario games like 3D World tend to push the series forward in terms of style and fun. 3D World's style started with the 3DS game 3D Land, but 3D World improved on that style greatly. New stages, enemies, gameplay, etc. made 3D World a definite sequel.

As for the other games, I can argue that difference is overrated. Many game series succeed just fine by sticking to a formula and applying a few changes. The majority of gamers I can think of that want a lot of "difference" in a series are those who either hate the series already (and thus have a biased opinion anyway).

Most Nintendo games are high quality. For that matter, most 1st party exclusives are. Some people just like Nintendo more.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

Nintendo has Fire Emblem and Kid Icarus so why would need any other company

I don't think the Kid Icarus part is really a thing.
Kid Icarus - 1986
Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters - 1991
Kid Icarus: Uprising - 2012

Unless we get a Kid Icarus game on the Wii U in the same vein as Uprising, I think it's safe to say Kid Icarus isn't that big of a franchise.

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

They're not, some people are just big Nintendo fans. I personally don't think they make the best games.

An paralleled level of consistency with JUST the right amount of gameplay variation to make each "rehash" interesting and fun. Most other devs who give their series the Mario treatment--Assasin's Creed, for example--pretty much just change the venue or make the graphics prettier and little else (and pray/pay for good reviews). Imagine Mario Galaxy 7: Brotherhood, instead we got the more varied Mario 3D World, which was smart IMO.

Oh course, this really mostly applies to main-series iterations. New Super Mario Bros. (and other such spinoffs of Nintendo series) definitely feel a similar strain to CoD, AC, Madden, etc.

Yep, you're cool because you have a Nathan Drake avatar on a Nintendo fan site, and no currently-playing games that are Nintendo games, and can say Nintendo games aren't all that great just to try and troll people...

I didn't say that. I love a number of Nintendo games, SSB, Zelda, Fire Emblem, Metroid, and some more. I also used the word best literally, I think that Nintendo doesn't make the very best games. That's in no way a knock on Nintendo though, they make some great games. I can see how it might have come off in the wrong way a bit though. I just never saw the whole best in the industry thing.

Lol let's do an experiment. Go on a Sony donimated site and use a Mario avatar. Go in the forums and say, "I actually think Nintendo makes the best games" and watch what happens. Haha I'm curious what would happen even though I'm pretty sure you would get ripped apart. Then some people would say you have the right to your opinion...

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

IIRC this is totally fine, I can't seem to find where it was posted but I know TBD posted somewhere reguarding not to insult or argue with others because they don't play nintendo games and are on the nintendo forum.

Anybody is allowed to voice their opinion whether to them nintendo is awful or not. If you feel they're trolling then why feed them? (and no I'm not calling him a troll or have anything against his opinion, just saying reguarding to your reply. lol)

Afterall.. we do have an "Other Gaming" section of the forum for a reason..

Inb4 thread lock due to nintendo vs. other company controversary.

In certain genres like Stealth games, racing stimulators, open world games, FPS games, TPS games, Story heavy games etc etc they aren't really close to the best aided by the fact they haven't made their move in their genres (yet or for a while). In genres they stick to in the current day, you could make a very good case.

So when it comes to variety, no. When it comes to their home turf, then sure you could make that case. If you mean the evil antics (DLC, seasons passes etc) of the industry Nintendo are more or less in there with the rest of them or eventually catch up to standards too late. They're behind the curve and ahead of the game at the same time...

Companies in their home turfs I have a love of respect for them (e.g. The guy who created the series in my avatar).

Varying gameplay mechanics.

Super Mario Sunshine was based around FLUDD.

Super Mario Galaxy was based around gravity.

Super Mario: 3D World was based on the idea of a 2D/3D platformer mixture.

Make it feel like a new game using the same beloved assets. That's how you keep a series feel fresh despite having lots of installment.

What don't you understand? Nintendo's titles for the last few years (released titles) have focused more on polish that is not being creative.

Name one first party title that has done something new and creative? you can't you can how ever name a bunch solid titles that play fantastic and look great, which is not not what I consider being creative if it was I would think that every new release of COD was creative......

DualWielding

my problem with Nintendo is that their lineup is not very diverse most of the games are the same style (cartoony graphics, generic mutes with no defined personality as the protagonist and very little story in the games) there's nothing wrong with that style, but since Nintendo do not get third party support (on Wii U) to cover the gaps in its on output the library ends up severely lacking

Dillon's Rolling Western, Kirby's Epic Yarn, NintendoLand, Metroid Other M, The Wonderful 101, Kirby: Canvas Curse, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds etc. etc.

Pretty darn easy if you ask me
