There will be a notification on the main page if we are seeking reviewers, so be sure to click it if you are interested.
Often, however, a moderator or newswriter just gets promoted into the slot, so if you see an advertisement for either of those, you still might want to apply.
EDIT: Forgot about the second part of your question. Perks: none.
Once in awhile, on the front page, a little widget will pop up, saying Do you want to join the team? or something like that. Click on that, and fill out an application.
When NL needs staff, there's usually an advertisement on the main site and the Join the Team link will show an application as opposed to the 'thanks but we're not looking at this time' message. You'll fill that out, the admin staff will review it, and you'll be contacted to let you know whether they're interested or not.
As for 'perks', there's not many other than seeing your name in digital print, but i can safely say you'll be handsomely rewarded by the accolades of your peers, the legions of adoring commenters telling you you're entirely wrong and you should've given (insert game here) a (insert number here) instead of whatever you felt it garnered via the Scoring Guide, a shiny silver shield beside your username, and, of course, a generously rounded six-figure salary... and by 'rounded', i mean that all the digits are zeroes, haha
BEST THREAD EVER future of NL >:3

[16:44] LztheBlehBird: James doesn't know the rules? For shame!!!
As @CB has said, there are no perks. We are forced to work in conditions that are remarkably similar to those of a sweatshop. We are given two slices of bread and a dixie cup filled with water once a week.
WE DO IT ALL FOR YOU GUYS.
Nintendo Life staff
I co-host a podcast about professional wrestling titled Blind Tag and I write/draw a daily webcomic about a werewolf in high school named Duane.
Thank you for the info.......hmmm I've always wanted to review games but I don't have much money so I usually get a game 3-7 days after it's released XD
Oh, one important thing i forgot to mention -- NL prefers its reviewing staff to be at least 18. that way they know you have the ability to pay for the games you'll have to buy in order to review them :3

Hmmmmm......lol as long as I could specialize on wiiware/vc games XD i only have enough spare money each month to afford 2,000-4,000 wii points $20-$40 :/ I have to have food & shelter too >_< is it possible to be given certain games to review given a persons situation whether it's money or not owning a specific system?
I have a steady flow of cash just not much of it XD honestly minimum wage is over-rated >_<
Here's what you do, at least here's what I had to do: You're going to have to blackmail someone, and it's got to be one of the big wigs around the site. Corbie's a good choice. It's easy to dig up dirt on the guy; lots of embarrassing photos to use to your advantage, and that bandana just smacks of suspicion. What's he hiding underneath it? Bribe money? A bald spot? We just don't know. Find out, blackmail him into giving you a top writing position, and you're in. Easy as pie.
Perks: none. Knowing the secret of what's under Corbie's bandana? Priceless.
