^No. Don't even try to pretend any of those things are even remotely worse than ruining the lives of people at young ages. There's nothing worse in this world than hurting people in ways that may never be undone. That is just beyond poor taste.

I'm not making light of the molestation stuff, I'm commenting on the generalization that people are making that the show was "child abuse" because it features fat ignorant redneck people.

You're kinda missing the point. It's child abuse because a mother forced her child into a model career while giving her energy drinks, coffee, and even medication, just so the kid doesn't instantly collapse from exhaustion.

I don't know why the show got canned, but sadly, child labour in the form of forced contests and careers is not yet criminal. Some states started moving against it, but far too many just look away (or enjoy it, even). The thing is, the show is a prime example of entertainment at the cost of an innocent's health, and that's a low point like barely any other in the world.

I watched like two episodes of the show, and it seemed to consist of glorifying ignorant people and following them around with a camera and seeing how they live their life. They weren't forcing these people to live like slobs, they were just documenting it (and adding in some scripted drama obviously) and may I add, paying them millions of dollars to do so.

If child beauty pageants were considered child abuse, they would be banned nationwide. They are not. I find them gross and unnecessary, but I don't think they are "abusive". If you think those are bad, what are your thoughts on parents who force their children into playing sports at a young age? Or forcing them to spend hours inside studying math or whatever? Those are all "abusive", no?

Reality shows are super cheap to produce. Most are the modern equivalent of the old freak show. Producers know their demographics and pander to them. We live in a time when celebrity is worshipped. Talent is no longer necessary to gain fame. The weirder you are, the better you fit into the genre.

HBB, DD, T&T, Dating Naked...all are cut from the same cloth. People like watching train wrecks, I guess. I don't know when being red neck and/or hillbilly became something to aspire to, but I'll pass.

Unfortunately, I am old enough to remember when TLC was actually The Learning Channel. That ship sailed long ago.

I'm just holding up a mirror to those who are criticizing fat unintelligent rednecks and saying they are not representative of your average American, much like those subgroups featured in the photos. There have been numerous documentaries and television news stories mocking all of those groups, so it's not like Honey Boo Boo is the lowest form of life as many people are arguing.

I think it is for the best if we just stop discussing about what you meant or didn't meant to say with your pictures.

That's so entirely ludicrous, it hurts. While fandoms can certainly cross several borders of bad taste, they normally don't hurt others by that, so your claim is just blind hate.
It's not about rednecks and the cliché plastered onto them, it's about harmful actions. You can have any kind of opinion, nobody's gonna deny you that, but you're making a direct comparison between obsessive fantasies WITHIN a fanbase and the media glorification of a mother who stuffed her kid full with drugs for some stupid fashion contests. I don't care where she's from, I don't care what kind of person she is, it's all about her actions, which are simply the lowest a mother can ever go: sacrificing your child's well-being for selfish dreams.
