...Ok my computer is bugging the crap out of me. It's getting annoying, has anything changed? Should I just say "screw it" and upgrade?
what exactly do you mean with "bugging the crap out of me"?
what specs does your pc have and what are you doing with it and what do you want to do with it?
have you tried cleaning your HDD with tools like ccleaner and defragmentation?
even cleaning the hardware from dust can help in some cases...haha cases. you see what i did there?
I meant bugging the crap out of me...as in it's constantly telling me to upgrade to Win 10. lol
The PC itself is actually fine, it's a gaming PC.

@Megumi: LMAO !
i deactivated updates right after i got my windows 7 gaming pc a year ago. mainly because it always crahsed with a specific update and i have never found a solution for that. installing the update just constantly failed and then started again only to fail later.
Nah, I upgraded to Linux, Windows 10 (which I do own btw) is a pain and with all the crap coming out about the preinstalled spyware and MS's intrusive TOS I don't think I'll ever really use it.
I heard Microsoft will stop supporting Windows 8 soon (whether that affects 8.1, which is effectively 9, I don't know), leaving it vulnerable to attacks.
Anyway, my computer went through a large update recently - I thought it would fix my issues - the taskbar randomly breaking, and endless errors on login, and while the latter seems to have been fixed, I've still experienced the former, and it's infuriating.
I've found out how to fix the sound issue though, but usually I'm required to log out and then log in again to fix the other issue. Usually that would result in a critical error message popping up, and I'd be forced to log out again, and then restart. But the one time the taskbar has stopped working since I've run the update, I haven't needed to restart the computer.
I'd love to have been able to stick with Windows 7, but I'm slowly getting used to it. The OS is still cluttered with features I couldn't care less about and some of the old, trusty features like a calculator are now apps which seem like they need to load off of the app store before they can be used.
@Santa: Granted it is a tablet, however whenever I start my tablet/notebook it looks like xbox live. Its okay but sometimes it will look like windows 7 aka the classical desktop look. I have no idea what is going on. Granted, I can always look up the solution online but the best user interface is one that is effortless.
@GamecubeMan: Are you using Windows 8/8.1? You can boot straight into desktop mode by right-clicking the taskbar, clicking "Properties," click the Navigation tab, and then under the Start Screen section tick the box that says "When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start." When next you boot, you should head straight into the desktop, like Windows 7 or 10.
I upgraded my laptop two times (8.1 to 10) but reverted back because Windows 10 was making my laptop run slower. Besides, I actually love Windows 8.1 (Definitely love 10 way better, but just saying). It's a solid OS and I really don't care about what anyone else says about it.
God first.

Sorry for the necro bump, if this counts as that. Just wondering if Windows 10 is worth it yet, if they have fixed a lot of the launch issues? I want to upgrade so I will be more prepared for Halo Wars 2
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

I mean...last post wasn't more than 6 months ago...if it was January from LAST YEAR, then...yeeeaaah.
As for 10, I took the free upgrade after seeing a tweet from JonTron, I mean he's trustworthy, right? xD
My computer is a gaming machine, it does seem like it runs a little better, but not that much....all my games seem to run perfectly fine like before.
Only new feature I'm really using is the notifications, you can connect your email/Twitter/whatever account and you'll get notifications about it. Other than that it's pretty much the same as 7 for me...
Oh right, the Start button is different, I'm guessing it's the same as it was in 8, though.

Seems like Windows Update tried forcing this out again; I normally handle my updates on my personal laptop manually and caught that it tried to upgrade from 7 to 10 again. Kind of stinks for people that habitually leave their PCs on at all times since this can start installing when the system is idle.
The main reason I haven't bothered upgrading yet is the lack of privacy in the EULA, plus the fact that Windows 8 and up apparently force someone to shut their machine down within fifteen minutes after updates are installed, regardless of whether or not you're in the middle of something.
