@Machu - yes well, no-one in this thread has ever said that those who do drink are stupid or bad.
It's not only you, so it's pretty unfair of me just to pick you out. I think quite a few people got overly defensive when three people expressed their dislike of getting drunk. I mean, I think it's a waste of money to buy the collector's editions of games, but am I not allowed to say that in a thread asking "have you ever bought a collector's edition of a game?" for fear of offending the delicate sensibilities of those who have?

@clicketyclick: Well, this thread isn't the one that caused me to feel that way initially, it was the 'do you drink' thread which I foolishly bumped hoping adults might be able to discuss such things. But, it got hammered with ill-informed and in some places nasty comments, hence why it got locked by 'the law'. That, combined with the 'do you smoke' thread, and the strange way in which this thread was met with a lockdown countdown, was the reason i made a negative reference toward 'the keedz'. I hope that makes sense. I totally understand your dislike of disagreement for the sake of it, but mine was prompted by events elsewhere.
The reason I jumped on Alexsays is I don't like the way he lurks in the background, just looking for posts to pick apart and poke fun at. It can be funny, sometimes, but I found his comments in this thread unnecessary and hypocritical, as you obviously did mine.

I read through the Do You Drink thread and I only found one offensive post by the anti-drunk crowd. Perhaps I'm mistaken, but it seems to me that the thread was locked because of the over-defensiveness and overreaction of the people who do drink and get drunk in response to those who don't.
As for Alex... it's not hypocritical to point out and correct ignorance and bad arguments. I always like reading his posts, even when I disagree.

Wii Sports (/Resort) is pretty rockin', especially since you can play many of the games with a drink in one hand. Fighting games tend to be a lot more fun for me after a couple drinks; I'm pretty terrible at them anyway and so I don't get as frustrated when I'm doing terribly.
The best games to play while on anything are definitely Rez and Frequency/Amplitude. Beatles Rock Band is pretty fab too.

@SuperSonic - beer can taste pretty terrible if you're not used to it, but that's not how all alcohol tastes like. I'd suggest mixed drinks for starters - stuff with fruit juices in them. Avoid tequila and look for stuff with rum or vodka in it. Or, try liqueurs, which have a much higher sugar content. And if you want to see if there are good beers, get the paler ones. The darker they are, the more hops they have, and that makes them bitter. Try a pale ale or even just go with cider instead.

Thats not true at all. Some of the hoppiest beers are IPA's which are generally a light golden color. Guiness, which is about as dark in color as beer gets actually has a rather mild flavor. The amount of hops is only one factor in the color of beer, and it isn't the strongest. The main factor in color is how long the mash process of the brewing is aloud to go on.

@Clickity- For one I CHANGED how I said it and 2. I thought that That someone said they didn't drink, when they (Don't think I thought both did thoughtful, so I shouldn't have put it that way. So I do apologize for putting it down that way.) said this stuff (maybe not both). Normally I do try to be carefull how I write, but people make mistakes. I tried to correct mine to be fair too. *Sorry to others about that part about "obviously never drinking" It should have been written differently in the first Place. *The 2nd part of what I said DOES Not imply that anyone who drinks thinks it's great to get drunk, nor did Iever imply that they would all think this. I NEVER ONCE said that, nor did I even try to imply it.
Though I was wrong how I wrote It seems to me like you're just trying to start crap with me Clickity. (I really do feel this, especially since I had a run in with you before about the avatar post I made. Just telling you this in case you're not trying to. At least you're aware how I feel then.Alsok didn't anyone notice that I told them that I thought it was cool that they didn't want to drink or smoke (something like that)? I actually meant that. I would not want to be the cause of them drinking or smoking. I definately don't want to give that impression. I was just letting them know how they might becoming off with those comments. They don't drink great, but be careful not to be rude or insulting to others if they do.
Edit- I would really rather get along with people here. Sorry to Sonic and those others if I seemed otherwise.
*Edit 2- @ Machu- It made me feel better to see Alexsays comment that way. I felt I was being picked on by him and clickity. I didn't mind that they didn't drink. It was just how things were being said (Particularly that drinking is stupid. That's offensive to some who drink). You can disagree and be polite about it.

the 'do you smoke' thread was worse. there's been a lot of threads lately between smoking, drinking, Wii/DS homebrew, and other things where I've been seeing people fling around some pretty negative stuff and completely ignore the idea of being excellent to one another (in terms of homebrew, even though we're not supposed to discuss it anymore, i was putting forth the fact that not all people who hack their Wiis choose to also pirate games). with my prior post to this thread, i was trying to nip that kind of thing in the bud because i'm tired of seeing it happen.
the bottom line is that if you don't have anything to contribute to the discussion other than 'getting drunk is bullshit', 'being drunk is stupid' or, according to your example, 'buying collectors edition games is stupid', why even bother to comment?

@The Fox-Come to think about it, I think it was a light beer. But now that I remember, I actually drank a quarter of a beer about a month ago, and it did not taste horrible.Maybe I'll give alcohol another chance in the future.
@Longtimegamer-I wasn't even upset at you, so no hard feelings.

I can't drink yet. but I have only 4 or 5 months to go before I can. However I am torn,Part of me wants to drink for the occasional partying. Yet the other part of me thinks I should stay away from it all together as there is a long history of alcoholics on my mother's side.

@Supersonic1990- Thanks. I guess obviously comment (The obviously part, at least) didn't sound good. It's just if you didn't drinl then it would then it would be hard to understand for some, I guess (I guess thet could jusd use their imagination) yeah beer is kind of an aquired taste. By the way.. I drink occasionally, but I do think that you don't have to have fun.
@JPFan1999- Might be a good idea to avoid it then. You don't really need it to have fun or any other reason people might do this. I had an uncle (who was 1 yr. older than me) who died because of this. Another uncle on the other side died (Around that age?) don't recall if alcoholism was the direct cause of it). So I'd strongly advise against it in your situation. I saw my last uncle (the one that was close in age) more than the other. So I had chances that I wish I could have figured out a way to stop his drinking. It was really a shock. First he was there and then he was gone.

it's your choice, man. go with your gut... if you don't think you're ready to dive into it when your birthday hits, don't push yourself to do it just because your friends are. if they're really your friends, they'll understand your reasons for not choosing to imbibe along with them. :3
that said, those friends who are more experienced with alcohol may be able to recommend some lower alcohol-content drinks so you can enjoy your first buzz, if you decide you're interested in giving it a try after all.
