I found three games late last month at the side of the road near where I live and all three games are in working order and two of them even have their instruction manuals! A thunderstorm was bearing down on me and the games would've been ruined had I not taken them. I placed a couple flyers on my street but so far nobody has claimed the games.
These are the three games I found:
DS. (Retail).
Max And The Magic Marker
DS. (Retail).
Sim Animals.
DS. (Retail).
My Sims: Kingdom.
Have you found any games while walking/jogging and were they still in working order? I'd like to see your stories.
I know it's not a walking scenario, but I found a Nintendogs 3DS game in a rental car once. I felt kind of bad, knowing that it was likely that some kid lost their game. I remember feeling crushed one time when I lost a game when I was young.
It was in a local park, and the label had been weathered off, so it was an exciting mystery to see what game it would be. It freezes (Friezas?) fairly often, but I've gotten a few good sessions out of it.
Never found any games like that. Oddly enough, the chances of me finding a smart device is greater then me finding even a single game cartridge. Stuff that makes me think.
A dying animal struggles, thrashes and howls in protest as its life torn from it. To see this in action, watch Animal Planet. The same thing happens when a video game is or isn't released. To see this in action, stay here.

I found an NDS. With an disconnected wiring but it was repaired afterwards. Working great; sold it. Most likely from an kid or young adult
Found an Beat-em-up cartridge that has the typical street-gang scenario on front cover. This was of course non-other then in the projects.
I saw an NBA Jam and SNES outside, while walking with my mother. She did not want me to pick it up. I think the SNES was thrown outside at that point in time.
Saw an PSX original 101 with AV jacks. Played it and it got very hot over time ( original PSX ). Was very fun to play with and sold it. The person I sold it to attempt to pretend it was broken and swap it for an broken one, but that attempt failed.
Saw broken PS2 and broken PS3 but I am too lazy to deal with it.
Crash bandicoot cd on the highway road side. I see lots of CDs outside every now and then.
Not a game, but one time I found a Dreamcast with a broken controller next to a dumpster in my neighbourhood. It was clearly in a bad shape, but I still managed to pluck away the VMU and run away with it, without the neighbours thinking "Look, the son of X and Y is garbage picking!". If it wasn't the middle of the day and crowded I would have looked inside the dumpster to see if there were any games. Anyway the VMU worked but when I looked at the files I saw the guy had Shenmue saves and I didn't feel like erasing anything because these are other people's memories after all.
Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...

Didn't find it on the ground but when I moved into a new house a few years back as a uni student, I found New Super Marios (DS), Yoshi's Island (DS) and KORG (DS).
Systems: Wii U, Wii, New 3DS Ambassador Edition, 2DS
Amiibo Collection: Villager, Rosalina, Zelda, Sheik, Toon Link, Link, Marth, Ike, Robin, Lucina, Pit, Shulk, Fox, Yoshi, Toad, Squid Inkling, Meta Knight, Ganondorf (pre-ordered), Yarn Yoshi (pre-ordered)
Only once and I forgot what it was. I was sad someone lost it, though...
I should mention that I didn't take it home, whatever it was, though my firend did. Got it all cleaned up and playing. Dude also found a freakin' Game Gear around the same area...in good shape and with an actual game (Sonic) in it, too. That's one lucky dude (especially since he got us to give him batteries for it...). It was actually by our houses, where we got picked up by the school bus. One of the high school kids probably lost that one.
I found a copy of Mickey's Magical Quest 2 on GBA when I was at a Kings Basketball game and it worked and I still have it to this day. Also found a copy of Cooking Mama and an Assassin's Creed game on DS in the parking lot of my work once. Asked my coworkers if it was their's and no one claimed it. I still have Cooking Mama but I gave AC to my friend since I didn't like the game.
My friend when we were younger found a bunch of NES games in a dumpster behind a MA and Pa Video rental store. Apparently they went out of business and just threw a bunch of stuff in the dumpster including NES games.

When I was doing landscaping in the summers while in high school we were doing a job at a park. There was a metal barrel garbage can by the running track and when I looked in it there was an original NES box and nothing else. I pulled it out, and inside was an entire NES with all the components (including styrofoam packing) along with Contra, Batman and Blades of Steel.
I took it home and everything worked perfectly. It's still in my basement somewhere.
No, but I found a copy of Crash Nitro Kart on GBA in a rental car once.
I also found a copy of The Far Side Gallery under our van on a random bathroom stop on a road trip. That along with the numerous (read: all of them) Calvin and Hobbes books made my childhood.
