What is a "pod shop"?

Pawn shop?

I got my own personal pod from the Internet. Most smaller pod shops are going out of business, and PodMarts prices are too high.

Currently Playing: Yakuza Kiwami 2 (SD)

All the games I've seen in pawn shops are either shoddy third party games or games with their discs so scratched up they're useless.

I like to check them but anymore they are all becoming big chain operations and none of those want older video games and retro is usually all I'm in the market for.

Steam - RancidVomit86

Ah yes! I know what a pawn shop is (I live in Las Vegas!), but both your title and OP had "pod shop" so I wondered if it was a type of store I wasn't familiar with.

When I was younger I frequented pawn shops a lot because buying stolen goods was cost effective. Now, I'd rather just buy new or used games at a GameStop or Best Buy rather than deal with a pawn shop.

Be wary of buying electronics or games at pawn shops, they aren't checked as well for quality. It is possible to get some good deals if you make sure to inspect discs for scratches and water damage, etc. I'm sure it depends on the pawn shop though. I doubt if they are all as super-sketchy as the ones in my city.

I used to do this when video game collecting wasn't very popular. I used to get amazing deals like Super Mario RPG for $6. That never happens these days though now that pawn shops have mostly wizened up to the value of old video games.

i used to all the time. i still do from time to time. you might find some good deals. but most of the time i find that they are over priced. they will take the highest price they can find online for something unopened in mint condition, then try to sell you a shoddy used one with ripped lables etc at an even higher price.

Nope, it's better to go to GameStop and Walmart, at Walmart you know what you're getting. At GameStop, you know what you're getting as long as it isn't...well, used.

My mom used to take me to one occasionally as a kid to get a game (a couple of Game Boy games, and a non-working copy of Kingdom Hearts were all I ever got though).

We usually went to Gamestop/EB Games, or a local shop called Game X Change to buy used games. Heck, I even had better luck at garage/yard sales.

Except Gamestop has a guarantee on their Used games and a 7-day return policy. I don't get all the hate on Gamestop's used games when they are ironically more lenient with used games

Me too. I've never had a bad experience at all with GameStop, they even replaced the used 1080 Avalanche disc that I bought from them once.
Where exactly does all the furious rage at GameStop come from?
