Topic: Has anybody here had Lasik eye Surgery?

Posts 1 to 20 of 23

I've had to wear glasses most of my life. I was about 8 when I got my first pair. Lately I've been thinking of getting that Lasik surgery but I'm scared of being blinded for life. Has that ever actually happened to anyone or is that just a silly fear people have?
If anyone here has been through this can you tell me what it was like?

Well my dad had lasik eye surgery once. He had to wear an eyemask for a few days after the surgery, but his eyesight was better than ever once he was done. He said it didn't hurt during the surgery, but his eys were sore during the time he wore the mask.

Go for it. You'll be able to shoot eye lasers. Trufax.

My mom had laser eye surgery 8 years ago, she had to wear some thick black eye mask for 24 hours following surgery. The procedure doesn't stop the aging process though. As you get older your vision will start to blur again, so you should take that into consideration before getting the surgery.

Yeah, I had LASIK done 8 years ago and I was so glad I did. To not have to wear contacts or glasses was amazing! I had the super fast, easy, and painless surgery done in the morning and went to work in the evening. You have to wear an eye mask when you sleep though for the first week or two. That was the only uncomfortable thing about it.

You'll want to do your homework — you want someone who's got many, many lasik operations under their belt to be doing yours. Also, from what I've heard, just because you get this surgery done doesn't mean that you'll be glasses-free. Plenty of people still need glasses afterward, though their prescriptions should ideally be much less extreme than they had been before the surgery.

I've also heard that they won't do lasik for you if your prescription is too mild. They probably wouldn't do it for me, but my husband (who is legally blind without his glasses) has been wanting lasik for years now, lol.

Hmm... good idea.

like Link79, I've worn glasses since I was 8. I might get LASIK eye surgery later after a nose job...

i came close to having glasses when i was little all because my assistant at school thinks i keep looking at the paper too closer, personally i think the text were just small by it self

just be glad you guys dont have hearing problems cuz it sucks by the way if anyone knows a lazer eye surgery is safe for someone who cant see small texts without glasses etc ?

Lasik eye surgery? Did you see what happened in Final Destination 5?!

I'm just kidding, I don't really like it though. I hate surgery, lasers and even contact lenses. I love my glasses just fine. If you do go for the surgery, you should take a friend with you though. Just in case. But you'll probably be fine anyway.

Yeah I saw that scene from Final Destination 5 XD. Yikes now I'm even more horrified. I also watched a short video of how the operation is done. They said something about slicing the outer layer of your eyeball off before zapping your eye.
I think I'm seriously having second thoughts now. I'll probably just stick with glasses.

@Link79 - Yeah, basically what lasik eye surgery does is cut a very thin layer of eyeball to penetrate the surface, and then go on to, er, zap a specific part of your eye to correct the focus of your sight. It's nothing too complicated, but if it was me, I'd just stick to the glasses. Just get yourself a smexy-looking pair.

My friend had lasik eye surgery so he could become a pilot. He says his eyesight is now technically better than 20/20. I didn't even know that was possible. I call him a cyborg.

my friend's husband had it done and it hasn't gone well for him. to be fair, benny is, like tbd's husband, legally blind without glasses. he still needs glasses, which he could live with, but he has needed all sorts of drops/medicines for the past 3 yrs. i don't know if it is a healing issue, the fact that they had to do it 2x for some reason or what.

i've worn glasses since i was 7, had to go into multi-focal at 11. i have always been extremely farsighted and my eyes don't 'play well together', lol.

as tbd said: do your homework! you don't want to be anything but confident in your doctor with something as important as your eyesight. good luck.

My eyesight wasn't that bad but I was encouraged by the doctor every time I visited because I was a "perfect candidate" at my age. I bought into it. The surgery was pretty cool. You actually do go blind in the eye they're operating on while they operate on it. They hadn't told me that in advance, the geniuses, but thankfully I didn't freak out because I was too stupid to realize what was going on. I thought they just had something held over the other eye.

My vision improved almost immediately. I was warned to wear these light-blocking glasses and not look at TVs for awhile, but I never bothered with the glasses and did sneak peaks at TVs and computers every now and then with no problem. However, now, two or three years later, I have a lot of eye dryness. I work at a computer all day, so it could just be a symptom of that and age, but I always worry it's the lasik's fault, as the most common complaint (so I've read afterwards, wasn't warned of this either) is long-lasting dry eye. I've read some get it pretty severe, but you never know how exaggerated reports on the internet are. For me, it is tolerable with eye drops, and eye drops are cheaper and more convenient than glasses, so it's fine by me.

I didn't look into my doctor and apparently came out fine, but I don't suppose that suggestion is a bad one anyway.

Come on, friends,

My brother has some problems in his vision we went for many treatment buy his myopia didn't get any recovery. Many suggested for laser surgery but the problem is he has this cornea so its not possible to due the surgery but finally he using implantable contact lens. But he can see every thing clearly.
He was treated in Evergreen Eye center Toronto..

I did have an annoying friend who used to shine a laser in people's eyes. Does that count?

Haven't had it, but I'm certainly thinking about it. Being blinded for life is really a possibility with Lasik unless the doctors really screw up. The most common issue caused by Lasik is chronic dry eyes.

That all said, I'm kind of terrified of Surgery, so I'm not sure if I'll ever get it.
