Topic: Graphics Or Sound: Which matters most to you?

I only say graphics because you cannot turn them off. But I do not pay attention to graphics, unless they are unbearably ugly. The music of a game enhances the experience, yet it is not necessary and can be turned off. Graphics are necessary and cannot be turned off.

Sound
I sometimes even forgive games with horrible graphics if they have awesome soundtrack.

Let's just assume that both the graphics and sound were good. Which would you prefer?

Glad to see much people have sense here to pick audio. I mean graphics, those you're stuck with in a game whether they're old 1980s level stuff like Pac-Man, or modern from junk like Mario Galaxy 2 or Uncharted 2. The problem is, the graphics pickers here in the minority say you can mute the audio if it sucks, well you know, you can't mute the visuals, and if you turn em off you can't play the game, so bad graphics are eye scarring permanent so how does that argument stand now?

Seriously, if i had to choose I'd say audio (whether I'm choosing it due to something sucking or both are excellent.) I can't stand a game with no music or sound effects. The combo of the two far better sets the tone for a game than any visual could ever do. Sure graphics can set the stage, but audio sets the flow and tone of what you're into. It can be as old as the ancient Pac-Man jingle when you see one of those 'Acts' where it's fast paced panic, then a fast paced panic in return getting even or something...or the little diddy played when you eat it as it does seem kind of sad and then couple notes at the end really spell finality of that life. Sure I'm using something very old, but let's say you had something like Dead Space going, great you can see some of the stuff coming, but a lot of the true atmosphere there is set by the atmospherics in the audio from creeks, scratching, pounding of conduit, splitting of walls and the rest, and most that fear and directional audio that taunts you to look somewhere would be missing with no sound -- then what? You'd better hope it all just popped on screen as it would be a super cheap game with instant cheap death after another from all the just off the screen junk that goes down. Audio really does far better than graphics set the tone in games in many fun and critically functional ways.

I have to go with audio. I've played a ton of games with horrible graphics and at times they've been so bad, I can't tell what I'm doing in the game! Usually it's the music that makes me want to at least try to beat the game, because I love hearing the finall boss music in a game! It's like the prize in the bottom of cereal boxes!

It's nice when a game has lovely visuals but I would still go for sound, I love it when a game has a great soundtrack. Many people think graphics make a game. For example one of my friends at school said that 'old' games are rubbish and he gave the impression that he was saying that because of the graphics. Also, when another friend of mine saw me playing Mighty flip champs on my dsi, the first thing he said was 'the graphics don't look that good'.

People always judge a game on graphics everyone at school hated the ideas of miis when the wii 1st came out but loved Avatars on 360 because of there Visuals, I prefer Miis because well they look like they were intended for a video game and not to make a virtual persona of you in the game.
Also People at my school hate the graphics of games like NMH, MadWorld, Okami, Little King's Story, and Animal Crossing, but there all really great games. Give me a game like X before COD.

Good to know, I guess? I don't know how many people care about the thoughts of your particular school. Unless for some reason you're trying to extrapolate those feelings onto gamers as a whole.

At least people at your school have heard of those games. There are probably around 5 people at my school who have heard of any of those games apart from animal crossing but I'm not surprised about their attitudes to those games. Most people at my school only care about games with realistic graphics.

Man, it's just like that at my school. People always judge games by graphics.

@mariofanatic128 I just dont like that when people judge graphic on a game before game play, I should ask them How they Prefer there TV. graphics or Show? beacuase I know some of them watch South Park and look at the Graphics on that show.

@otaku Sorry, if I came across moody. As I said before people at my school don't like many games that don't have realistic graphics and most of them don't play much apart from COD, fifa and guitar hero.

Probably sound, but think about what games like A boy and his blob (Wii) and Super Mario Galaxy 2 would be like without good graphics?
