Topic: Graphics isn't getting the credit it deserves.

Here's how I look at it: Graphics can be simple, yet beautiful, but if it sucks, then it really sucks. Great graphics isn't always about the highest polygon count or resolution it's about how you present your game. That's why some DS games today can look absolutely stunning, while high resolution titles like G.I. Joe looks like a waste of space.

Like it or not, graphics is a big part of the experience, and those who disregard it completely is only fooling themselves.

Yup, and again I point to World of Goo.

too often when people think of graphics they think of realism rather than style that fits the game and adds something unique to the experience. Too often developers make this mistake too and produce games with realistic graphics that suck. This is a major problem with PS3/360 games.

It's all relative. I went ooh and ahh over some of the best looking rubble ever in a game during Gears of War 2 and while playing Killzone 2 (at a friends house, of course), but some don't care for the war torn look many FPS games have.

This should be the Gears of War 2 tagline.

We've got years and years of photo realistic graphics to look forward to, there's no rush. Style is everything.

@Adam: nice!

Realistic graphics can be cool but you don't need them super realistic. All the 360 and ps3 fanboys' biggest argument is the wii graphics suck, but it doesnt matter how real it looks. thats why wii is selling waaaayy more and its still a lot better sorry just had to get that off my chest

I was just playing Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow today and I realized how good the graphics were. Everything is so detailed and beautiful.

I'll say, the Unreal Engine does a very nice job of making browns and grays.

Little's King's Story is beautiful
It uses so many bright, wondrous graphics that along with the music, make it seems like it was one of those great movies at the film festivals that everyone raves about but never hears about again... I'm afraid that will be exactly what happens to Little King's Story...

Why can't some companies go back to 8-bit like Capcom and Nintendo (Pictobits)? That pleased a lot of people

Graphics have advanced for enough that it doesn't make or break gameplay anymore. It's not like Atari games where you can't tell what is what. You can make a game with 8 bit graphics and as long as the gameplay is designed well, it will be a good game. Otherwise people wouldn't be interested in buying Virtual Console games.
