Topic: Good idea to buy games already owned at Nintendo Select price?

The prices of brand new games of top hits at Nintendo Select and Player's Choice titles at $20 usually are worth much more plus the replacement cost will probably be over $20 in a few years after released at discounted price. Is it worth it to buy another copy of say Donkey Kong Country Returns or Tropical Freeze as a backup copy while prices are low now brand new? I feel tempted to do so when I see new copies of big hits like DKC or Zelda at $20 new but feel it's kind of a waste of money if I already have it. Am hoping for second opinions on this in terms of getting these as backup copies and maybe even as an investment for the future.

There's no way of knowing. But look around you - how many games from those selections have you ever seen for a really significant amount more than it was available for on release?

Metroid Prime on Gamecube was a players choice title for $20 back in the day in NA.

No. Games are not a good investment. Spend your money on something else.

I'm amazed how many don't understand this. Then again, I forgot it for a time, of which I am still paying for. Both metaphorically, and in some cases, literally.

Well, if you're buying them for cheap and selling them at inflated prices, then they seem like a good investment.

Though of course that involves not playing them.

I wouldn't invest for monetary value.

I would, however, invest for your own collection in anticipation of rising cost, in order to save yourself money down the line.

If you're worried your disc might wear out over time and want a backup then sure, go for it. Personally I take care of all my discs but, everyone is different.

I grabbed a few backup copies of notable Wii U titles when they were on sale. Mario Maker, Star Fox, Splatoon, DKC, Bayonetta 1/2... if you can afford it, and they're really cheap, why not. Go through BB with GCU to trim that price tag down to $15.99 (pro tip)
