In an era when there is HARDLY anything worth watching as a young adult on the television channels that I enjoyed as a young child such as Cartoon Network, CBS, Nickelodeon, Discovery Channel and Disney Channel a ray of hope ignites out of the darkness and from that light comes Genndy Tartakovsky the mastermind behind Dexter's Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls and of course Star Wars Clone Wars: The Micro Series.
This time in my opinion, Genndy Tartakovsky is back with something that far outshines his past works (save for Star Wars Clone Wars) in Sym-Bionic Titans!
Sym-Bionic Titans tells the story of royal teenagers and their robot who are on a run of galactic proportions in a desperate attempt to escape an evil general who has conquered their homeworld. The youth discover Earth and try to create a new life for themselves in the United States only to find that cafeteria food, teenage stereotypes and American High-school life is as horrifying as battling evil across the galaxy.
The show pays homage to Voltron and classic Japanese cartoons and has something for everyone as it takes a look high school life in America and contains a beautiful space opera storyline.
I’m so thankful that Cartoon Network is finally redeeming themselves with Sym-Bionic Titans.

I saw some footage of the new show. Honestly, it looks like the worst thing Genndy has worked on, in my opinion. [youtube:HrCIkDQ6qHQ] I like giant robots, but the high-school/alien theme kills it for me.
NICE. I love this guy, he always uses great color in his cartoons. Definitely one of my favorite cartoonists right now--which is surprising because he draws so flat, and I usually hate that. Samuri jack is probably my favorite of his, but thanks for the info! I'll keep an eye on this.
EDIT: watched that video. It could be good, but I really hate the use of CGI in hand-drawn cartoons.
i'm with you, Kid_A -- though I feel there are some instances where CGI and hand-drawn-style cartoons mesh well, that trailer irks posted did not display any of them. i can't stand it when people throw in CGI sequences that don't mesh with the rest of the animation at all. :/

Well guys, to be quite honest I like the combination of hand drawn animation with CGI, especially in movies like Treasure Planet, Atlantis: The Lost Empire and The Prince of Egypt and The Road To El Dornado.
Furthermore, this new show Sym-Bionic Titans is quite a breath of fresh air out of the misery that has been airing on Cartoon Network lately and I'm really liking what I've seen of it so far.

@Tokyo Red: Genndy did not create The Powerpuff Girls. That was Craig McCracken, who also made Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends.
On topic: I love Genndy's work. I have been dying for a new project and hope to be able to see this soon (cable's down this month...).
I know, but he was the Director of The Powerpuff Girls. If you look at the credits you'll see that Genndy Tartakovsky was indeed the director of the show and it is still said by many in the entertainment and news industry that Genndy Tartakovsky was the driving force behind the Powerpuff Girls. Please read the following quote from Wikipedia: ()Dexter's Laboratory grew out of a student film with the same title that he produced while at the California Institute of the Arts. Tartakovksy also co-wrote and pencilled the 25th issue of the Dexter's Laboratory comic book series, titled "Stubble Trouble".[7] Additionally, he helped produce The Powerpuff Girls and has directed many episodes, serving as the animation director for The Powerpuff Girls Movie. All three projects were nominated repeatedly for Emmy Awards, with Samurai Jack finally winning "Outstanding Animated Program (For Programming Less Than One Hour)" in 2004 (the same year he would win in the category for One Hour or More for Star Wars: Clone Wars)()
Also J.J. Abrams is supposed to be working on a Samurai Jack movie.

The JJ Abrams thing has been in the rumor mill for a while now. I think it's more of him mentioning that he liked the series and would consider making a film of it, and then people running away with a "story" that he's working on the movie.
And i'm mixed on this new series. The trailer seems to have some goodness, but the aliens-in-HS premise (and ham-fisted CGI) make me say "no thanks".
Looks ok, but kind of like CN told GT that he could make another show and handed him Mainstream-themed program 255 and he had to run with it.

[21:15] pixelman: OB knows what he's asking about.
Hopefully this can begin to bring CN back from the dead.
Edit:
Just saw the premiere episode. It's looking good, but not nearly as good as Samurai Jack or Dexter's Lab.
The animation was good, and the CGI wasn't used too much, and when it was, it didn't stick out as much as it did in the trailer to me. It's hard to comment on the plot yet, since there's nothing to really comment on yet. I liked the music too.
Why is everybody hating on JJ Abrams? I can't speak for his television work but his films are always great. Anyway, John K. is the master of animation these days, but Mr. Tartakovsky does very good work--pretty far above what most people are doing (although I did discover a pretty neat little cartoon--Adventure Time. It's a cartoon that's actually a cartoon! Imagine!) I'm pretty skeptical about this new project but it has potential.
