A "gateway game" (as far as I know, I'm the first to use that phrase) is a game that lets a player new to a series of games quickly and easily learn the mechanics of a game series. List and ask for gateway games in certain series on this thread.
What do you think would be a good gateway game for the Castlevania series?

Aria of Sorrow. Good difficulty curve, introduced the features of the newer games, aesthetic is typical of the series (unlike DoS and PoR zomg D:), amazing plot twist. <3

Thanks. I haven't played any of the newer ones, but I plan to, so I guess I'll get this one first!

@JohnWalrus Aria isn't as technically advanced as the later ones (it's on the GBA, the later ones are DS games), but it's a great game that I think people shouldn't miss. Don't even look at Dawn of Sorrow until you're done with Aria though, it's a direct sequel with major spoilers for it.
