Topic: Gamestop Trade-in Trickery?

So I just beat Mario & Luigi: Dream Team and I went to Gamestop to see what I could get for it. They will give me $17, but they also have a deal where you get an extra 40% if you trade anything towards Mario Kart 8. So with the extra 10% as a Pro Member, I would get $25.50. However, as an almost exclusively single-player gamer, I am not as excited about Mario Kart 8 as most people. So I was thinking, is it possible to only put the $5 down towards it, then come in later and cancel the pre-order and get the $5 back, but still have gotten the extra 50% on the trade-in? Has anybody tried doing this to know if it works, or does Gamestop have some way to keep people from doing this?

I think the $25 would be transferred to instore credit, possibly towards MK8. So that might mean, you could get it back if you 'decide' not to get it. But I'm not sure.

You will receive the $17 back, but you will lose the extra 40%. That's my best guess.

Well I'm pretty sure that I would put the $5 towards Mario Kart and get $20.25 back on my rewards card or in a gift card or something, because I've taken advantage of these deals before, I've just never gone and cancelled my pre-order. I just don't know if they have it in their system so they will make me pay back the extra $8.50 if I decide to cancel it, or if they won't let me cancel it or what.

Oh, I thought of it wrong. Well then, my best guess is that you will be unable to cancel the preorder. You won't be obligated to pay the remaining cost of the game, but you won't get your $5 back.

I've done this a few times and I have never had an issue. I would just wait awhile before you cancel the preorder.
