I noticed that the new Professor Layton game will cost $34.99 at Gamestop but only $29.99 everywhere else. They also did this with Fossil Fighters and who knows how many other games. What is with the $5 tacked onto the price? Do they do this for all new games they get in?
They do it with all first party Nintendo games I believe. They've been doing it for awhile now too.
(Yes, they suck)
I've noticed that too -- GS will carry the game for like $5 more than the Wal-Mart next door. screw that.
BEST THREAD EVER future of NL >:3

You have the first one for the proper price, and it's listing NSMBWii for the right price, and Bowser's Inside Story is also for the right price. Are you sure it's not just a mistake rather than a standard practice?
I have noticed that GameStop does do this on certain DS games, but nothing else. There is no reason to get upset about this because if you can find the game cheaper elsewhere buy it there.
@Gamerking23- It's just the Idea of what they're trying to get away with. Some poor people probably don't even realized they're doing this and get screwed over because of this.

As for those people they should really do their homework and check prices. If they did that then maybe GameStop would drop there prices, but as long as people are willing to pay them the price will continue to be higher.
Well, games will be more expensive at places like GameStop and FYE because they sell them at the MRP because all they sell are smaller type of items like games, cds, dvds and systems. While, Wal Mart and Best Buy will sell them slightly cheaper because they hope a low ticket price on a game will make people want to buy a big HDTV at their store!
I think it will be a sad world when the only retail options are Best Buy, Wal Mart, and Target in the USA. So if you have the extra cash support the specialty media stores, at least their employees are pretty knowledgeable about video games! And they usually carry more obscure titles.

Finally a voice of of reason. What irks me is people who comment on business practices when they clearly have no knowledge of how small business vs big business works.
I worked at a chain music store in college and we had to explain this argument all the time. It's so hard for people that have no clue about business to wrap their brains around mega stores that have incredibly large and diverse selection of items compared to chain stores.
Gamestop is a greedy coporation that doesn't care about gamers, so this is no surprise.
unless if you go to my gamestop to find good deals sonic of course you know that from me buying The Munchables and a few other titles but yeah gamestop is over priced i think for my copy of KH 358 by 2 days its 34.99 when at first i thought it said 39.99 was about to say whoa hold on a second :/

oh yeah i know for a fact as i work in electronics department whenever we get a game like for example if sonic chronicles was old we'd still be selling it for 34.99 but like gamestop would be selling it cheaper new and alot of people get on us for that but we can't change the prices thats how our company is which i think is kinda stupid if i see a title at gamestop thats 19.99 vs 34.99 i'm going to gamestop to buy it though i'm sorry get the better deal going there and plus unlike some stores gamestop will let you return it if you don't like it though unlike walmart and target they can't cause of copy infringment and pirating of the games so thats why i always tell the people getting the game hey are you sure you want this.. cause if they don't like it they come back storming at me after i said hey i told you so.

I remember a few years ago, I was noticing how Gamestop was selling "greatest hits" used copies of FInal Fantasy 10 for $19.99, when you could have gotten a new copy anywhere else for the exact same price.
Also, charging $44.99 for used copies of Brawl and Mario Kart Wii is highway robbery in my opinion. GameCrazy sells them for $39.99.

The voice of reason isn't a popular voice to be heard!
What irks me the most, is when people have good paying jobs and they just pirate all the games, music, and movies they have. That's just wrong. I belive that bad Karma will come back to haunt these people.
If you love entertainment support it with your wallet! Nobody rides for free except perhaps leaches. Don't be a cheap, greedy, pig support the industry and especially support the smaller companies.
