Seriously, it's about time a Handheld game won one of these things. The difference between handheld and console games have become marginal at best, and there have been console quality handheld games for a very long time, yet the gaming press still treats handheld games like second-class citizens for no reason other than "they're on a smaller screen". It's bullcrtap and I'm glad to see a major player fighting against it.
A couple other games I'd have put ahead of it, but very deserving winner none the less and I like that a handheld game took it.
On a sidenote, I got particular enjoyment out of reading and reacting to some of the comments on the announcement video GS posted to youtube. The mad was absolutely hilarious.
Sort of off topic, but The Guardian newspaper in the UK awarded Super Mario 3D World their GOTY. The guy that does all their video game coverage is really good (he was featured in the amazing Charlie Brooker video game special a few weeks ago), so it holds a bit of weight with me, more than somewhere like IGN anyway.
Top 10:
Super Mario 3D World
The Last of Us
Gone Home
GTA V
Papers, Please
Link Between Worlds
Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
Proteus
Again, no FPS. People just like to say that all people care about are FPS, but only the really, really good ones actually get recognised in these lists.

I have to say I can see why Gamespot picked A Link Between Worlds as their GOTY. The more I play this game the more and more I am enjoying it. It's nice to see a game on the handheld get GOTY let alone a Nintendo handheld.
