Honestly this took me by surprise. I was certain that alot of other games would win this but it's nice to see this game come up the winner.

What are your thoughts?

Honestly I would have probably separated handheld and home console games but it's nice to see a handheld game win it for once.

WOW... I agree that there should be a seperate category for console and handheld gaming... but man... Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is awesome!!!

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I do plan on getting a PS4 eventually.

Coming from Gamespot, this is shocking. Not to say it doesn't deserve it though, it was a great game.

My thoughts are: the next episode of Feedbackula is going to be crazay (Feedbackula is my one and only favorite thing from Gamespot). The Gamespot audience is composed of 93% Bro-Dudes, 7% sane people and 1 Nintendo Fanboy with a Kirby avatar that dedicates his whole day to searching out every post that has nothing nice to say about Nintendo so he can start an argument with the person who posted it so you know his job is never done. Anyways that Bro-Dude crowd is going to want to kill someone.

Seriously, it's about time a Handheld game won one of these things. The difference between handheld and console games have become marginal at best, and there have been console quality handheld games for a very long time, yet the gaming press still treats handheld games like second-class citizens for no reason other than "they're on a smaller screen". It's bullcrtap and I'm glad to see a major player fighting against it.

Woha, well the comments on that article are out of controll already. People are already talking about whenever Nintendo paid Gamespot or not. Anyway, its a neat suprise. Haven't played it yet but its a good sign for Nintendo and handhelds in general. I wouldn't have mind if Bioshock or Brothers would've won though.

This is the same gamespot that, until recently, struggled to give any Nintendo game anything above an 8 mark? Is this the end times?

Can't say I'm really desperate to play the game, but it's nice to see it has a lot of critical success.

Some game is named GotY, the conspiracy theories arise, and everyone lived happily ever after (except the haters). Good to see the stale formula is overused ;)

Avian fact of the week: The Moa, an extinct relative of ostrichs and emus that inhabited New Zealand, was the tallest bird that ever lived at 12 ft tall (3.6 m). It was also the only known bird to have no wing structure.

That was beautiful... But seriously, if ALBW or Fire Emblem or the other top notch 3DS games that came out this year that I don't have time to list were on Wii U, they would be twice as likely to garner a heap of awards.

ya nintendo did pay gamespot, but in a very indirect way.

first they invested their time and money into making an awesome game, then they also paid for some advertising and stuff so gamespot would know about it.

People will hate no matter which game wins the award (Nintendo Life was filled with negative comments when GTA5 won VGX Game Of The Year).

I do agree about handheld gaming being on par with consoles. Early handheld systems offered watered-down and limited experiences, but the 3DS and Vita have changed that. I love that we can now enjoy console-like experiences on handheld devices.

Currently own: NES, Master System, Wii, Wii U, Xbox, Xbox 360, PS2, Game Boy, GBC, GBA, GBA SP, DS, DS Lite, DSi, DSi XL, 3DS, 3DS XL, 2DS, PSP, PSV

Don't we usually have them really close to the end of the year? Like around New Years?
