Yeah, I'm pretty sure that having your parents killed in front of you as a child would have pretty adverse effects on most people.
Being an orphan is pretty much a prerequisite for being a superhero. Batman's situation isn't drastically different from any other.
How so? Let's look at other superhero orphans:
Superman: Was a baby when his planet blew up, still had the Kents to raise him though, and didn't see any of it happen
Spiderman: Hardly remembers his parents, was raised by Uncle Ben and Aunt May. Aunt May is still alive, Uncle Ben was killed but again not in front of him.
Those are the only two heroes I can think of that are orphans right now, other than Daredevil, I guess. And neither of them faced the trauma of being able to remember their parents, and seeing them die in front of them. Besides, the "orphan" trope was basically invented by Batman. Also, one of the best characteristics of Batman is that he basically knows that he's crazy. The only difference between him and the Joker is that he hasn't crossed the line of killing people. You should read "The Killing Joke", explores this very well. Joker talks about how the only thing that separates random citizens from being Batman or the Joker is one bad day.
I hate these topics for the very reason people putting Skyward Sword and KI:U in them. Go to Metacritic and see the overall scores and the majority loved or liked them!
MetaCritic might not be the best site to go too, as it only take the fairly big reviewers into account. But yeah, doesn't hurt to do a bit of research for these sort of threads.
...I don't think I have any anymore. There are some games I'm okay with that people hate, like Final Fantasy II, Phantasy Star II, Devil May Cry 2, SaGa Frontier II, and Shadow the Hedgehog (c-c-c-c-combo breaker!!!)....but I wouldn't say they're anything above tolerable, honestly.
Arkham Origins - I still don't understand what people were expecting from it other than better plot than in City. It's still a pretty good game, although little buggy (like most games nowadays, sadly)
Hitman: Absolution - I don't understand the hate at all. It's not perfect, but for what it is, it's a good game
Max Payne 3 got a lot of hatred, but to me it was solid follow up to the other 2 excellent games. I can't think of anything that could make this game better... except fixing framerate on console version.
Where my friends and I usually get stupid:

WinBack: Covert Operations for the N64 and PS2. Since the N64 didn't have a Metal Gear Solid-type game, this has to be the closet to one. It's pretty fun.
