As a kid I didn't take sophisticated experiences too well. So when I was about 13, and celebrating my birthday at Chuck E. Cheese (then called Show Biz Pizza), I received a game as a gift I had never heard of, Super Metroid.

I hated it with a passion. I couldn't get anywhere interesting, the atmosphere was too dark and it sat collecting dust for many years. I later started to collect game magazines almost religiously and in 2001, I read an EGM mag that mentioned their top 200 games of all time. Sitting at number 1 was that piece of garbage Super Metroid. EGM must have poor taste because that game sucked.

I mentioned the article to a friend saying "Can you believe this?" He casually said yes. He told me it may not be the best game ever but it comes pretty close. So I asked him to show me the ropes. Show me what's so appealing. He happened to have a saved file of the ending. Me, now having a growing interest in art and creative writing jaw dropped. Despite my friend spoiling the ending before my eyes, I was determined to get to that ending myself.

I started taking in the excellent atmosphere and ambiance and wondering why aren't there more games like it. Sure my then inner Playstation fanboy had Castlevania: SotN, but it wasn't the same. I looked at both gaming and Nintendo differently then, and I never looked back.

Mario 64- I missed playing this at the right time, when it was a revolutionary game. Trying it about 10 years later, it just didn't seem very special. However, after getting the DS version and persevering, I think it really was quite impressive. Especially the level design.

Dragon Age Origins- It took me 3 attempts at this game before I saw its greatness. I was so bored for the first hour or so. The fact that it's bioware and it has high metacritic score made me persevere. And I'm glad I did!

(and regarding the emphasized YOUR in the thread title, I think I'm probably the only person whose mind I've changed about a game!)

Final Fantasy X for the best.
Final Fantasy XII for the worst.

I'm probably the exact opposite on that. Although my initial impression of 10 was very very high and my initial impression of 12 was very very low. I've gone from 10 being to just slightly high and 12 being to fairly average. 10 will always be the best Final Fantasy love story though, I can't ever see them topping that.

Earthbound- I didn't like it when I first tried it. Then I decided to give it one more chance and bought it on the Wii U. Not as good as the fanbase makes it out to be, but it's a fun RPG that's not a bajillion hours long.

New Super Mario Bros series on the Wii, Wii U, DS and 3DS.

When I played them at first it was fun with multiplayer , but then it just got stale really fast.

The only one I bought was the first one for the Wii. I've played the other ones, but I just don't like these games.

I liked Pokemon Soul Silver but then I played Pokemon Black and got bored of it, it also seems pretty bad with all these Pokemon that you got to get at real events when it should of been in the game along with having to buy a different version of the game to access certain things....
I love Kirby games but I don't like Kirby Mass Attack, gets boring and annoying.
I don't play Castlevania games but the first GBA game (not NES classics) but it was the first 2D one that I played and I hated it, also played Castlevania 64 and everyone should know how that went....but might give it all another try by playing a good game in the series.
