Topic: Games you changed YOUR mind about?

Can be a game you later realized IS good or a game that you came to your better senses about.

For me I've recently chaged my mind about Mario & Luigi Parners in Time and Sonic Advance. Never cared much for either even after getting them but now I really like them above other games in their respective series.

Sonic Adventure 2 Battle (I never really got how it was supposed to work until pretty recently).

My opinions on Sonic the Hedgehog and its first sequel have gotten more positive and more negative, respectively, over time.

^^ That is the same for me as well.

Nights into Dreams (No fun at all for me until I got it - now it is one of my favourite games).

I hated The Revenge of Shinobi at first, but I spent eight dollars on it so I forced myself to play it until I liked it. That took a while. Somehow it was genuinely addictive, though. Super Mario Kart was similar, though 2-player versus made it a lot easier to get into. I never really hated that one, but the computer opponents angered and bewildered me.

I can't think of much I had a GIANT change of opinion for. I will say DKC and especially (and sadly) Kirby's Adventure are no longer on my personal best game lists. Based on DKC2 and Returns being better than the first game, and Kirby's Adventure slowdown issues.

-Star Fox 64 went from a good game to one of my favorites eventually
-SMB 1 and 3 lowered a bit imo. They're classics but SMB1 is more innovative than truly amazing in 2014 and SMB3 (and World for that matter) are not as good as Yoshi's Island.
-I didn't realize Halo 2 was one my favorites until way after the fact because I compared it to later games and got past hype backlash.
-Smash Bros Melee didn't become my favorite fighting game until we bought it less than a year after we sold it (lol)
-Majora's Mask became my favorite Zelda (tied with TP) when I got it on VC
-Bomberman 64 was the least interesting rental from my childhood and now I feel is maybe an underrated classic. Somehow.
-My opinions switched for Banjo Kazooie and Tooie
-I was awful at the first Advance Wars but now I can actually get somewhere in the game

I changed my mind about Castlevania. At first I didn't like it but now I do.

Resident Evil Revelations used to hate it(and all horror games in general) until I actually got around playing it, now I really enjoy that game(and I'm also not scared anymore when playing games of the genre)

Sin & Punishment - I can't believe I ever held this game highly. The sequel was even worse.

Super mario World - I really was a stupid kid to like this terrible game.

Panzer Dragoon Orta - I liked this once. I don't know why. Its almost as terrible as Kid Icarus with its terrible controls and overblown levels.

Kirby 64 - messing around with the powers was fun as a kid, but they never actually made a difference. Its still the same boring Kirby.

Dark Souls - once the hype wore off, the Emperor's clothes came off and I realized terrible it actually was. They seriously need to put the combat in a game that doesn't suck, though.

Donkey Kong 64 - i use to think it was okay. It really isn't.

Perfect Dark - I used to think it was okay. It sucks.

Rogue Galaxy - After playing the worst RPG ever, anything looks better in comparison, even this trash...

Golden Sun - This is still a bad game, but I can see why some people could look past its problems and enjoy it.

Final Fantasy PSP ver. - this is easy, but it still retains the sense of adventure, now minus the hassle.

Donkey Kong Country Trilogy - these are actually some pretty good platformers once I played the GBA versions. I guess it really was just screen lag before...time for a new TV...

Banjo-Kazooie - I can't actually remember why I disliked this before...there's really nothing really bad about it outside a few rare camera issues and the annoying "voices".

Super Mario 64 - I seem to change my mind about this game every time I play it...I'm still in like mode right now at least.

Secret of Mana - it isn't fantastic and it took a lot of getting used to, but its fun enough.

Chrono Trigger - loved it the first time I played it, hated it the second time, loved it every time afterwords.

I probably got more, but I don't care enough to think about them.

I usually keep my opinions of games but there are a few I've changed my mind about.

Fallout 3: Walked right into a high-level area trying to take advantage the "open world=epic!!!!!1111" aspect. Died repeatedly and hated it. Decided to give it a try later by making the first five hours more linear so I could actually get leveled enough to actually explore. One of my favorites now.

Kingdom Hearts I & II: I guess my opinion hasn't changed that much--I always thought it was just an OK series, but the rabid fans claiming it was amazing made me like it a lot less...just like Attack on Titan...I need to learn to let that go though, I'm starting to hate that show as much as Youtube stars hate Justin Bieber and that's just unhealthy T_T

Most recently, I'd say Kirby & the Amazing Mirror and Yoshi's Island.

For Kirby, when I first got it through the ambassador program I deleted it quickly because I found it's layout confusing (and this is even after recently falling in love with the "Metroidvania" concept), but when I went back to it earlier this year, I got really into it. While not a perfect game, I found it to be a fun & unique take on traditional Kirby platforming.

As for Yoshi's Island, I found it to be off-puttingly difficult at first (and deleted it), but once I went back to it and got used to it's gameplay, I realized just how awesome it really is (though I'll always preferr SMW because nostalgia, lol).

Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

KATAM's a good example too. It's still really low for Kirby games for me but I was on the bad side of meh towards the game when it first came out, but despite its flaws it's a fine little game.

Child of Light
Tomodachi Life (thought it was dumb, now i badly want it! just looking for a good deal)
Zelda Oot 3D... I know... Two years ago, i was turning 13 in like three days when Hurricane Sandy came along. I had a 3ds and never played it, had no games. So I looked up popular 3ds games and Zelda came up, so I asked for that, expecting a Zelda Alttp like game. Top down and all that jazz, but loved it and finished in a week, all in 3d, causing horrible headaches, but way worth it.

Metroid Prime Trilogy and Metroid Other M are games I do enjoy to an extent, but in general now, I'm very mixed about the experience in each of these games. Metroid Prime Trilogy has the misfortunate of being the Metroid games I most directly compare to Metroid Prime Hunters, and I feel that game buried all three entries handily. I might like my run through Metroid Prime 1, 2 or 3, but inevitably I'm going to wonder why they weren't even close to being as good as my first experience with the series. My main issue with all three, and Other M, is pacing. With Metroid, Metroid Zero Mission, Metroid Fusion, Super Metroid, Metroid II and Metroid Prime Hunters, the longest completion time I may have of that group will be around 2 hours and 15 minutes while the shortest would be around 50 minutes. My ideal time for all my Metroid experiences currently would be around 90 minutes or less (my general plateau with Super and Hunters). My averages with Other M and the Prime Trilogy go from near 3 hours (Other M and Prime) to nearly 10 hours (Metroid Prime 2). Currently, I'd put the four at the bottom of the pack due to the much slower pacing.

Super Mario 3D World is another game I'm a bit love/hate on. Usually, while I'm playing, I don't mind my experience too much. I enjoy the levels, but don't quite love them. What ended up bugging me about 3D World though was it added too much visually, specifically it added in worlds. In the end, that decision couples the game with Galaxy 2 as having some of the crappiest presentation in the 3D Mario games. Seeing random worlds with random levels scattered across them just zapped my motivation with 3D World. I have yet to beat the game because of its presentation. It's worse than NSMB games in that area, because all though they may be too repetitive with their designs, they at least create cohesive worlds and levels. I really hope that Super Mario 3D World 2 doesn't become a reality unless they're going to pull a 3D take on NSMB, where presentation isn't a complete disaster zone.

New Super Mario Bros. (DS) — I used to think this was the best game ever. Then I learned what things like level design meant...
Same with Mario Land 3: Wario Land

Mario Kart: Super Circuit: I loved this game as a kid, and now....I can't control or appreciate it anymore

And there are many games that have gone up on my list as I play more games, like Metroid Prime, Portal 2, Mario & Luigi: Super Star Saga.
And to all the golden sun haters: That game was not the best game ever; it had it's flaws, but I wouldn't call it a bad game.... but that text * shudders *

Mario Kart: Super Circuit. I used to love this game, and I even bothered to get the official OST.
Mother series: I stuck with it to the end. You only realize good things once they're gone.
Tomodachi Life: Never thought I'd enjoy it, and I now know exactly how Animal Crossing can destroy social lives.
Fire Emblem: Awakening. Sorry, but I realized that I liked the RPG aspect and the story more than the strategy. Radiant Dawn is why I got into the series, but...

The one I can remember the most would be Pokemon Gen II, including the remakes.

A few years ago they were on the top of my list of perfection, starting with my replay of the remakes.... I realized how unbalanced they are and I find them a little hard to enjoy now.

I don't hate them or anything.

Mario Kart Super Circuit. Couple posts above reminded me I forgot to mention this one. Loved it when I was younger, then got the ambassador download and couldn't control it and deleted it. Just last week I put my old cartridge into my DSlite and forced myself to learn the controls. Now I'm loving it like when it came out all over again! It's been years!

Shantae Risky's Revenge: I actually hated this game, mostly because how unfamiliar I was to the concept of a metroidvania. After 2 years of more experience with the genre, I've grown to love this game.

Wario Land 4 was another game I disliked for that similar reason only that grudge lasted for about 9 years..

I also wasn't a fan of the Kirby series as a whole, most because of my experience with the Amazing Mirror. I still don't like the Amazing Mirror, but Kirby's Adventure will go down as my favorite NES game and Kirby Superstar will go down as my favorite SNES game.

I used to hate on Pikmin alot back in the GCN days, but I ended up liking the games. Other than that, most of my mind changes were for certain series, as a whole, and not specific games.
