@KirbyTheVampire if you're playing on PS4 I could give you a hand as a summon if you like. Generally rubbish at hard games but for some reason the Souls/borne series and Nioh really clicked with me and I've beat them all so far.
I'm gonna try to solo the game for now, but I'll let you know if I'm getting slaughtered, lol. Thanks.
@Mishima Older games are harder to beat, so I don't see why age has anything to do with it. But, if you're so good at games (or at being a human), why don't you go ahead and beat those games yourself.
@KirbyTheVampire Nice, that's exactly what you should do mate. I know these games have a reputation to be hard, but it's really exaggerated. I would say it's more about learning caution and getting used to them. A couple bosses are hard, but in general, those games just need you to overcome a certain line that once you cross, you'll feel the game much easier. I don't know hot to explain it, but I'm by no means a great player on any game, just decent. I went through the same when I started with Demon's Souls, and all it took was to realize that using my shield, attacking with caution just giving one or two blows while looking at my stamina and progressing slowly without venturing too much made it all a whole lot easier.
That being said, I did feel Dark Souls 3 can be more punishing to newcomers than the other entries. People say it's easier but that's because they have played the previous entries. Revisiting all the games, the dificulty rises from Demon's Souls to Dark Souls 3 from my perspective. Don't sacrifice speed for armor and good luck!
@KirbyTheVampire no worries dude, best of luck then! You'll be fine, just take your time and maybe consider doing a little grinding to up your stats. More than happy to give you some hints if you get stuck or want to find some handy early game items. In fact there's a weapon you can get where you're up to that has a status effect that recently received a buff that would be worth picking up.
@Mishima It's really, really tough. I naively thought I might be in with a shot, as I managed to beat Bomb-Voyage after investing a stupid amount of time into it (much to my own surprise), but... P-Break was just too much.
I haven't played a lot of the tough-as-nails old-school games people are referencing in this thread, so I can't really relate to them, but then I remembered Mario Maker and realised there were definitely some modern examples of challenges I'd earnestly and repeatedly attempted without success.
The Immortal.
I played it on the Sega Genesis. That game was ridiculous from the start. I would recommend trying it unless you get gamer rage, in which case, don't play it at all. I agree with the OP, Lost levels was a hard game. I thought that was the reason why it didn't release in the US. I could be wrong though.
Gonner. Cant even beat the first room with those three big thingies. It could have been a good game but this way its just masochist garbage. Seriously either im just realising that games always were this hard or dark souls is gradually destroying my hobby. Whats wrong with having fun? I dont want to feel survival and frustration playing videogames. Its like they cant manage a balanced difficulty and just label their games as hard as dark souls. Theres just too much challenging stuff on the eshop. Seriously let me play again. Ive beaten every souls game but this is getting ridiculious.

Gauntlet for NES. Even with passwords, this game is about impossible for me to beat. @The_Shpydar and @ogo79, your thoughts on this brutal game?
My friend had that game, and there were more than a few Saturdays that we spent pretty much the entire day playing it in an effort to beat it. I recall we finally did after many many hours, it was definitely brutal and tedious. I believe only the power of listening to Rush LPs while playing got us through it.
Paper Mario: Sticker Trash... i mean 'Sticker Star'!!! Sticker Star was hard because you NEEDED THING stickers to fight bosses and solve puzzles. Finding the THING stickers are SO RANDOM & ANNOYING! That ruin the flow and gameplay for me. HATED STICKER STAR! I understand I can googled what to do BUT I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO! The game is fundamental bad.
@Mishima
No I would not. If I'm interested in the trailer a company releases, I will purchase the said game. Then I don't watch anything until I have beaten it. I rather figure it out on my own. Stubborn I suppose.
I've never been able to defeat that stupid boss that throws you down to the floor below, and finally it left me too frustrated. I've tried a couple more times but its always the same.
Jet Force Gemini...still can't beat the final boss.
I have beaten Jet Force Gemini, somehow. It has to be in my top 5 for toughest final bosses.
I never managed it myself - the mandatory first person bits as the flying droid just presented a roadblock to me ever actually making it there. Given the ending is a loving homage to the Jimmy Saville from the years before everyone knew about all of the horrific sexual abuse maybe that's a good thing? In hindsight not Rare's most inspired decision...
@Dogorilla I wouldn't give up hope. Mega Man 1 is much tougher than Mega Man 2 or 3. In part because you can carry health refills but also because they have a more balanced design. I don't think there's anything anywhere near as tough as the Yellow Devil in any of the subsequent games.
It's really one of those series where it's unfortunate that most people, when presented with the full set, will start with the first game (because it's the first).
coincidentally, I've been playing Megaman 1. I don't remember it being THIS hard? Like, I feel like in exchange for finally getting good at Yellow Devil, I've gotten much worse at the parts after it? Was Gutsman rematch always this annoying?
