Topic: Games That Should Become Movies

Hey everyone, what video games should become movies? Most adaptions are terrible, but I think it's because they pick games that don't have much story. (Doom anyone?) Maybe if they picked some big blockbuster game franchises, they could make it work. I have high hopes for the Assassin's Creed movie in the works. I also think Halo would make a great movie, but I don't know about Gears of War because it doesn't have the deepest story, but then again it could be a good popcorn flick. What do you guys think?

I'll just standby and watch the universe of gaming implode while James Cameron considers turning Bioshock into a movie.

Bioshock would be cool, I'm still waiting on the Mess Effect movies that are in the works from Legendary Pictures, CANNOT WAIT

A Zelda movie would be horrible, because Zelda doesn't have the deepest plot. Then again, GameInformer said Skyward Sword actually had a more complex plot with deeper characters you cared about.

Here's what I wanted when I was 17:
A LoZ Trilogy.
Movie 1: MM
Movie 2: OoT
Movie 3: A non-game related movie that sums up the series.

2 years later... I dunno about it. It would be pretty intresting.

@Link245 They could add dramatic and plot-driven elements to the story, but still staying true to the games.

no, just no on a zelda movie, just WRONG...

@pntjr I think they would just find SOME way to mess it up somehow... it would probably end up like a Sonic game going for a deep narrative. XD

@Link245 I can't help but agree, but inside I don't want to agree.
If they do it right, or if they have Steven Spielberg working on it, there's a chance it will be the next Harry Potter.

I actually had a dream that there was a live action movie based on Cave Story last night.

movies tend to ruin things in general — books, video games, TV shows, you name it.

This I would pay to see.

As for some serious examples:

  • Puzzle Agent (The puzzles were the worst part of the game; the story was what made it shine and is ripe for adaption)
  • Portal 2 (It kind of is a movie already, so it doesn't need an adaption except that would allow more people to "see" it)

Epic Mickey and Metroid: Other M would also fit the medium well, and I could see Punch-Out!! as a great animated film.

No. Just no. I guess people disagree with LoZ, but Punch Out just crosses the line.

What line are you talking about? People don't like your Legend of Zelda idea, and you don't like my Punch-Out!! idea. I don't see any difference between the two, as long as we can both back-up our opinions.

The story of the Wii game is already very Rocky-esque, it has some of the best video game characters ever, and the art style is already perfect for animation. I know I was charmed by the small little cutscenes in between fights, and if they were really expanded upon and added to, I could see there being a good movie there.

That would be pointless. MGS4 was so great because it took full advantage of the video game medium to tell a story.

I'd LOVE to see a movie version of the Bioshock novel Rapture that came out a while ago. That book is perfect for a movie.

Also, I think a Legend of Zelda movie could be amazing--but it would have to be animated and Link would have to remain silent.

The game has... 9hrs of cutscenes? Shoving that into a 2hr movie would be horrible. It's good (isn't it?) like it is.
I'm sure you've heard this, but from the time you finish gameplay to the end of the last cutscene, it's about 90min. There's no way they could fit the whole game into a movie, and since you pretty much have to play the previous games in the series to understand anything that happens, it just... wouldn't work

I would say the original MGS though, that would make a pretty cool movie. As long as they don't eff it up :shakefist:
