I just remembered I have Back to Nature and More Friends from Mineral Town on the PS3 and Wii U respectively. I'll try those out instead.

I'm not disputing that games are a great source of escapism, but I think it's worth mentioning that anxiety is a level up from issues that benefit from a bit of light stress relief.

If something is making you anxious it's important to confront it, asking yourself what the root cause of the anxiety is and what you can do to address it

Then play some Mario Kart

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

@ZeldAlice Now that I know you like games with a deep story I highly recommend you The World Ends With You. At first glance, it looks like every other game from the Final Fantasy Franchise in wich we have the antiphatic protagonist who suffers from amnesia, but he develops very well and all the characters you meet are amazing and in my case won a place in my heart. In more than one occasion the character dialogues left me thinking about many situations in my life and even cheered me up.The atmosphere is great, the soundtrack is amazing (I have to say I normally don't like japanese language in music, but the songs that are in japanese in this game are quite good, just as the ones in english) and the game is quite fun and challenging as well. It's quite a unique RPG and you can notice that immediately because the art style and the many other choices that aren't usual in these kind of games. For me it's the best game on the DS and it even got an HD version for phones that it's actually really nice with touch controls that genuinely work.I really, really recommend you that game. If you have an opportunity to get it, please give it a chance.

Another game I really recommend you is Okami. In my opinion it's better than any Zelda I ever played ( my favourite is Wind Waker) but to be honest while I do like Zelda I don't consider myself a fan. Okami has a really, really slow start, but after the first hour or hour and a half you will be experiencing a really heartwarming experience. After I finished the game and saw many characters change, I actually felt like I was in a long journey that finally reached it's end. The game is beautiful and also one of my favourites.

If you like to be entertained with puzzles and don't have much money I found Donkey Kong (game boy not the original) quite fun with about a hundred levels and more acrobatics available for Mario than in any other of his 2D games. I'm not a fan of Mario games but the level design in this game is amazing and it's quite charming and fun.

Honorable mentions you probably have already played: Super Metroid (favourite game ever), Shovel Knight, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and Shinobi 3.

I hope you have the opportunity to play any of these games and have a great time just as I did with them.

Nice thread @ZeldAlice!

Gaming helps me a lot to manage high anxiety and stress levels, which have been super high lately due to me doing the last requierements to graduate. I usually mix some short burst of new games I haven't finished, like Fire Emblem Fates, with two proven classics for me: Mario Tennis and Mario Golf for GBA. I've replayed them so many times I know the story mode by memory, but they are relaxing for me.

I have a chronic lack of time, for everything.

Now playing: Okami HD, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
