It saddens me to see all the people on here saying they don't like FPS games; which inevitably means the generic military shooters and dumbed down linear shooting galleries we've been getting for the past 8 years.

I wasn't a huge FPS fan at ALL until I went and played some stuff from the 90's to early 2000's like Doom, Quake, Unreal, Blood, and Serious Sam. I can totally understand why someone wouldn't like the crappy stuff they call FPS's these days, but you should give some of the older games a try.

Pretty much every suda51 game.

I don't like FPS's because of the FP part. First person gameplay gives me simulation sickness and rips me out of the game due to the lack of a peripheral view.

That's why it confuses me when gamers rejoice for a first person mode but no one bats an eye over a third person mode.

Call of Duty actually has decent online play, though it's hampered by really bizarre matchmaking.

It is a bit early for me to talk, but so far i don't understand the whole "Sonic Adventure 2 is the best Sonic game" cause so far while it in some ways better than Sonic Adventure 1, it is nowhere near as good as Classic sonic or Generations and Colors. though i think i'll play more of it.

I'd actually agree with this. If it weren't for the hyper-addictive Chao Garden, I don't think I would've enjoyed it nearly as much as I did, and it definitely doesn't compare to the better games in the franchise (Classics, Advance 1-3, Colors, and Generations). I still like it, but by now it's only "okay" at best, IMO...

Final Fantasy XIII is one of the few popular games I think is objectively a failure, or at least as close as you can justify to calling entertainment objectively bad. I originally didn't have an answer for this thread, so I'm not one to bash people for liking thing I don't (at least unironically), but I truly can't see what anyone sees in that game.

In general, I can't think of a universally beloved game I don't get. I mean the amount of universally beloved games I legit don't like I can count on one hand practically. Even stuff I complain about like Fire Emblem I don't dislike.

I just want to mention, I like Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. I don't understand why I or anyone else likes it. It's not a very good game whenever I think about it, yet I'm having so much fun when I play it. It's the very definition of a Guilty Pleasure, I guess.

World of Warcraft, I know... everyone loves this game, heck even I liked this game for about a week. Afterwards it was just the same repetitive questing from here to there drivel with a bit of dungeon crawling, PvP, flying, levelling, crafting, questing. And people get deeply hooked on this game... I just don't see how you can get hooked on this, it is so boring and monotonous.

Call of Duty, I will agree it is probably the best designed multiplayer FPS you can buy and it usually has little bugs on release compared to Battlefield. But yet, it is literally the same game as last year's but this time with extra pixels and more gimmicks and probably more raging 12 year olds. Maybe I'm getting too old for this stuff, but it just isn't fun anymore and it hasn't been for a very long time.

I can't get into Final Fantasy 4/5/6 and Dragon Quest. The latter isn't very clear when telling you your objectives-which leads to unnecessary herenowtherelaterneverprogressing. The former? I think it has a dull story and a silly difficulty spike/curve.

Though I understand how it would have niche appeal, it boggles my mind how Minecraft became as popular as it is. It's like the complete opposite of every modern AAA game, but sells better than all of them. Why? While it is fun and I have no bad things to say about it, I just do not understand why it sells so well.

It's most popular with kids, from what I can tell. So I guess you could say it's rediculous popularity is because it's like Legos, but a zillion times cheaper.

Huh. That makes perfect sense.

I learned something today.

BTW, if someone put a gun to my head and name a modern game that would get to be popular to a large age range, including a lot of children, Minecraft would be pretty high up on that list.

Because it's a game that centers around building. Children tend to have wild imaginations, and generally enjoy building. This is why games like Rollercoaster Tycoon are popular among kids.

Left 4 Dead. A fun multiplayer game with TERRIBLE controls. I can't even play it. It's the only game I won't play because I can't endure the controls.

Grand Theft Auto IV—it's one of the most critically acclaimed games of all time (98 on Metacritic, which is second highest after Oot with 99). However, I just don't understand why people like it, it was boring, uninteresting, I hated the art palette, and simply just average. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a GTA hater, I loved the previous ones (especially San Andreas) and thought GTA V was awesome, but I just can't understand the praise that this one gets.
