So we have a thread about beer, and that's pretty cool. But what about the rest of you guys, what do you enjoy? Aside from beer, I am quite found of hard ciders. Back when I lived in the states, I kept Angry Orchard in the fridge at all times. Here in Japan hard ciders are rather rare, so I drink whatever.
My boss's boss also has made me enjoy hot sake. Japanese rice-wine served warm. So smooth, but you gotta be careful because it tastes good, but hits you like a truck! Well it hits me anyway. He seems to be able to drink liters of the stuff without issue! lol
I generally don't actually like drinking much while gaming because it dulls reflexes and in RPGs and stuff, can lead to missing things. But usually a light beer or cider is fine. Oh, and sometimes I like Sangrias too - girly drink I know but I also don't care.
Oh, one thing that's all but non-existent in Japan are hard lemonades like the "Mike's Hard" drinks you see all over the US... or did while I lived there. There are fruity drinks you can get here, and some are quite good, but not the same kind as back in the US.

1 1/2 cup soymilk
1/4 cup frozen pomegranate
1/4 cup cantalope (if you're feeling extra healthy, use frozen cut carrots)
1/2 cup frozen mango
2 tsp honey or brown sugar
Schmidge of (less than a tsp): vanilla, ground cinnamon, chia seeds (to make it 'boba' ish/pop out soak in milk for 10 mins).
Schmidge optional: if you want to make it alcoholic, add rum (up to a shot).
1. Pull all ingredients in a blender.
2. Blend.
3. Enjoy your life.
Lloiddd's Chia Seed Sweet Tea:
Boil jasmine tea in a 1 1/2 qt water for ten minutes.
Pull out tea bag.
Add 1 cup (or more depending on how sweet you like your sweet tea) honey or brown sugar.
Turn off heat when fully dissolved. Cool for 10 mins.
Add to proper receptacle (ie pitcher etc.)
Add 1/8 cup of chia seeds + stir. Set aside for 5-10 mins (this is when chia seeds will 'pop out' like tapioca)
Put in fridge for 1 hr.
Disclaimer: if usually mix this not really using exact measurements...so if it's too sweet, not sweet enough, too bitter or too bland I'm sorry I'm guesstimating right meow.
Half to full baby cucumbers cut in thin slivers (you can peel alternatively ie peel from end to end, skip a line, so that cucumber looks fancy)...this is optional, traditional mojitos don't have cucumbers.
Mint leaves, about 2 dozen (lightly smashed/bruised in pestle) or and mint extract (like 1-2 tsp)
Option 1 (lazy method): 8 cups lemonade pre-made (of course, but you probably need to skip sugar unless you want diabetes) + 2 cups of carbonated soda. Also you can buy the 'pulpy' type it'll look like you actually squeezed it.
Option 2 (good forearm workout): If you're gonna use real citrus fruit to squeeze (tangerine is my favorite), 2 cups juice at least + 8 of club soda. Just FYI, this ie the natural way = slightly bitter. The more "real juice" you have, the more bitter but the more flavor you'll get (ie if get 4 cups of real citrus juice, only add 6 club soda).
1 1/2 cup rum
1 cup honey or brown sugar
2 cups of crushed ice
1. Mix sugar + lemonade + club soda. Make sure sugar is dissolved. Honey is gonna take longer.
2. Add mint/mint extract. Mix for 2 minutes.
3. Add rum, mix again.
4. Add ice, stir. Taste.
5. Add cucumbers, stir. If you hate cucumbers, you can also do lemon/citrus peels for looks (where you peel it like spiral, it'll look schmancier).
6. Enjoy your life.
Also I've seen this done with rose water/sparkling rose water instead of club soda...too expensive for me but that's an option.
I like a nice scotch, I’ve been enjoying Lagavulin 16 year for a little while now. Usually on the rocks, but I like a hot, spicy gulp once in a while too. If I mix a drink, it’s usually a vodka or gin. I like to muddle some kind of fruit, and mix with a variety of different beverages and juices, then strain (or sometimes just dump) into a big glass jammed to the rim with ice.
Extra strong long island for a friday/saturday night. Only drink 1, unless its a holiday and for the love of pete, space it out by a couple hours.
Pint glass with a rock ice cube you will want to water this down
1 shot triple sec
1 shot gin
1 shot rum
1 shot tequila
1 shot vodka
1 shot sweet n sour
2 marascino cherries
Splash of coke, take a sip, then another splash.
Drink slowly. Enjoy any game while slightly buzzed.
My alternates are cuba libres, glass of disarono, or shots of rum or UV flavored vodkas. Ocassionally smirnoff malt beverages or Dailey's frozen drinks.
I'm not drunk. You are. 😋
@ThanosReXXX - I had never heard of a Cuba Libra until you mentioned them last week. I googled, and it looks like rum, coke/cola, and lime juice. Any particular type of rum? I like dark rums, but not spiced rums. The recipes I saw recommended Bacardi Oro, which I had to look up as well. It’s a golden rum made from a blend many rums.
@bimmy-lee Well, you can rest assured, because it's most definitely not a mix with spiced rum. There's probably an official recipe somewhere, although I've seen it been mixed with dozens of kinds of rums in bars in countries where I've been. Bacardi Oro is definitely a good option, but at home, I simply use white Bacardi, lemon AND lime, and a bit of ice. The lemon is just a slice in the glass, and the lime is squeezed as juice, to be added to the mix.
I've got a special Bacardi brand glass, that has a rim at 1/3, so you know how far up the ice/lime/rum mix needs to go:
Then just poor Coke on top. Coca Cola of course, non of that Pepsi trash or any other, cheaper brands...
By the way: over here, they just call it Bacardi & Coke, Baco (pronounced: bah-co) for short...
But Cuba Libre is the official name, named after the country of its origin.
For the record: I don't ALWAYS drink, when I play games, but I usually only drink in the weekend, and with my current life style and busy goings-on, I just don't have the time to play games on week days, and as such,
the two things often come together in the weekend...
Before, when I did game during the week, I just drank water, coffee, a Coke, or any other soda drink that
I happened to have in the fridge at the time.
@ThanosReXXX - Sounds refreshing, I’ll give one a try. Coke of course. Cool glass, that makes it easier to mix. I’m not much of a measurer when it comes to mixed drinks. I’d make a poor bartender, my drinks tend to be a bit stiff. My rule of thumb when it comes to drinking is, I drink when I want to drink as long as the timing is appropriate, and I stop when I feel I’ve had enough. When I don’t want a drink, I don’t have one. Drinking and gaming aren’t synonymous for me, though I often have a beer by my side while playing. I don’t like to let mixed drinks sit and get watered down by the ice melting. A beer warming up as I play doesn’t bother me though. I also have a fruit and greens smoothie every morning, and I drink water throughout the day like it’s my job. Three cups of coffee every morning as well.
