It is way too expensive; I want to know if there is another thing I could use, or do I even need it?

Using a Wii to play GameCube games is cheaper than getting the GameCube component cable, lol.

Use a Wii with a component cable. Much cheaper.

It isn't really necessary, but some games are able to play in progressive scan, with a widescreen display, or both, and it can only be done if you use a component cable. Check the back of the game box and it'll say if the game is compatible.

Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.
Now playing:
Final Fantasy XIV (PC) | The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch) | Celeste (Switch)

The games look amazing through the component. When I finally got an HDTV with component cables, I replayed alot of my GCN games to see how they looked. I was still impressed with GCN's graphics, even well after 7th generation was around, because HDTVs gave life to 6th generation that wasn't there before HDTVs were common.
