@TBD: Even though I hate Gamestop with a passion and the thought of them buying up another company and making themselves bigger just makes me want to throw up I have to agree with you if it saves those employees jobs than it is a good thing. No one deserves to lose their job in this bad economy.
But in all honesty they way they haven't been able to carry a lot of the newer releases this doesn't come as a surprise Game preparing for bankruptcy.

I hope GAME is bought by Gamestop but is still called GAME, basically I want Gamestop to be the parent company of GAME. GAME needs an overhaul, they need to stop selling third party games at £35 when they have been out for months. They should at least drop to £30 after 6 months. Also, has anybody else noticed that the staff at GAME know little to nothing about upcoming games and/or what's happening in the gaming industry, plus some staff members are rude.

Sounds like they are already becoming like Gamestop. Rude staff members staff not knowing whats going on in the gaming industry I feel sorry you people who use to shop at Game.
They will probably change the name to Gamestop like what happen with Electronics Boutique when Gamestop bought them out over here. Unless for some reason some other company over there owns the Gamestop name.

@Tasuki No one else owns the Gamestop name over here in the UK. It wouldn't surprise me if it was renamed Gamestop. Wow, I had no idea Gamestop is the same as GAME (in the staffing aspect). We already have a Gamestop UK website so its possible to see Gamestop stores soon.

Yeah than they will probably just rebrand the stores as Gamestops alot of companies do that now adays when they take over a company. Its probably just easier to go under one name. Although the weird thing is if you type in www.ebgames.com (Electronic Boutiques web address when they were around) The web page looks just like Gamestops but it says EBGames at the top where as on Gamestop's site it says Gamestop. But as far as I know EB stores are all called Gamestop. They will probably do the same with Game when and if they buy them out.

So Satan is dead, and Hitler is taking over the underworld?
I've been discussing this with a friend over the past few weeks - the UK needs more game retailers. Otherwise, it's left to HMV, supermarkets and Toys 'R Us, and they can't provide a dedicated service a specialised game shop can. HMV is a music store, space on supermarket shelves is at a premium given the variety of goods they stock, and Toys 'R Us would hardly stock Saints Row or Resident Evil.

So what you are saying is that a person would have to do game shopping online like from Amazon or something along those lines.
This doesn't surprise me at all with the way things have been going. @edge I agree but HMV used to be a great store for games as they used to be better for lesser known games on Nintendo consoles that have been out for ages than GAME were but now they stock far more games overall on Sony and Microsoft consoles than games on Nintendo consoles which disappoints me. At least that's how it is with my nearest HMV.

Of course, Amazon is an option, but the UK economy (and the UK game industry) would lose out if there are no high street game stores.
And the consumer would lose out if Gamestop (in much the same way as GAME) is the only dedicated game retailer on the high street, as they don't have to charge competitively - in much the same as GAME has, which is, according to some, why GAME are in this mess.

Yep thats how it is here for me anyway since Game Crazy went out of business all there really is for a gaming store is Gamestop and a few ma and pa retro gaming stores.
Games at a Supermarket?? I cant imagine that. Isle 3 soups and juices, isle 4 cereal, cookies and crackers, isle 5 Xbox, PS3, and Wii games, isle 6 baking supplies.
We just had a British Supermarket move into my neck of the woods called Fresh and Easy I wonder if they will stock video games.

That would suck for me. I have a GAME and GameStop right next to each other nearby which turns out in great prices on my behalf since they're competing for consumers.

It's likely some, if not most of them will. Usually when a retail chain goes bankrupt, even if no one buys the whole company, a few of the shops buy themselves out and continue to trade as independent entities.
I'm really not a fan of GAME but losing anything related to the gaming industry is always sad. I hope the workers can manage to find some jobs if not with GameStop.
