Rockstar games gets my vote. I have never been interested in any of their crime simulators or fast and furious/midnight racing titles. Also I really disliked Midway's later titles on the Xbox/PS2 era. In particular, games like The Suffering and telekinetic soliders (whatever the name is) were just an abomination and disgrace to gaming. However, I love early Midway games and anything from their arcade titles.
I'll also have to vote Rockstar; it's not that their games lack effort or a certain degree of polish, it's more that I'm deeply opposed to the shift in gaming that they both led and fed on, regarding the identity of gaming, its core demographic, its fundamental fantasies, and its general themes.

"Crime Simulators?" Holy crap, Jack Thompson has a NL account!! Speaking of The Suffering, I actually thought it was pretty decent.

Disregarding all the overrated FPS developers and overrated Square-Enix games, two companies immediately come to mind: 1. VanillaWare: Although their games are gorgeous, it's obvious that they value graphics over gameplay, perhaps more than any other developer I know of. Even Muramasa, which contained their most responsive gameplay yet, got boring after a few hours. I doubt I will ever purchase another one of their titles, no matter how pretty it looks. 2. Ubisoft: Beyond Good and Evil, PoP: Sands of Time, and Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes are some of my favorite games ever. All of them also have game-crippling bugs that can force players to start over. Whenever I see their logo on the title screen I get nervous. Playtest your games, please!
Only ignorance could lead you to a different conclusion... or being the Jack Thompson peep mentioned above.
Er... no. I wouldn't say "crime simulator" myself, but something more like "adolescent fantasy simulator." There's no question that there was technical skill involved in creating the game's engine, environments, and so forth, but that does not a good or great game make.
Perhaps the most important part of the identity of any game is how it invites the player to enjoy; now, I'm fully aware of the fact that there are many different ways to enjoy the GTA series, and its defenders will attempt to present the more embarrassing ones (running over pedestrians, shooting hookers, etc) in the light of player choice, as if it could be the game's virtue that it allows you to run amok without forcing it. However, that's deceptive, and a tremendously dishonest way of appraising the game. It clearly builds its core appeal from the fantasy of being a bad-ass in a big city, who can nab any vehicle at whim, shoot it out with the cops, and cause all kinds of violently-fun collateral damage along the way.
That's not to say that it's fundamentally wrong for anyone to enjoy the games, as I'm open to anyone entertaining themselves as they wish, but one should at least be more honest about the impulses that drive these titles to sales success, and there are fewer things that make gamers look less mature than having a series like this one define a huge chunk of the industry.

Grand Theft Auto IV is a masterpiece. Super Mario 64 is a masterpiece.
Being or not being a bad-ass has nothing to do with it. Shooting hookers has nothing to do with it.
You are confusing video game reviews with Fox News.
Bioware- They make ridiculously lame RPGs. Two examples are Mass Effect and Sonic and the Dark Brotherhood (which was a waste of not only my money but my time as well), and they're considered to some people, "legendary" which is above over-credited.
Um, you play Baldur's Gate?
Or KOTOR? I like Bioware alot. But I guess RPGs where you actually get to role-play your character and decide how they are going to react isn't for everyone. The thing that bugs me the most about jRPGs is that you don't get to choose how your character will react to different situations in general. WRPGs on the other hand actually include the role play part of RPGs and Bioware is one of the best at implementing it in a computer system. Of course, due to programming limitations, the options of how to react will be far more limited than an open forum RP or a pen and paper game, but Bioware has always done a good job creating enough choices so there is always something you could see your character doing.
As for developer's I hate... I guess that could go to any of the shovelware producing developers..

[16:44] LztheBlehBird: James doesn't know the rules? For shame!!!
Yeah, got a little carried away there. Sorry 'bout that. [insert guilty look] Anyways, I shouldn't get so insulted by such a small thing-it's over a videogame for goodness sake! Allow me to state my opinion in a more peaceful manner: .... I can't even remember what my opinion is after all that. It derailed my train of thought also!

If that is the case then don't worry because Jack Thompson likes Resident Evil and Silent Hill
I will applaud Rockstar for making a big sandbox game with lots of stuff to do, but the content is disgusting. Certainly not my cup of tea, but you can play it all you like.
Valve - I just do not like Half Life. I give them credit they have great technology to work and Half Life 2 on the original XBOX had some good controls, but beyond that I was pretty bored. I had the original Half Life for years on the PC and I just felt it was mediocre. I guess the best thing Valve has done is create Steam, but when it comes to their games I could care less. Rockstar - Most of their games just put me through a snooze fest. They have made two games I like Max Payne and San Andreas and that is it. High Voltage Software - They just have a long history of mediocre games dating all the way back to the Genesis days. They have made what has been considered a few decent to good games. But not much of their efforts has impressed me. Everyone spews the Conduit was their first FPS which is not true. First FPS on the Wii but not first they have developed. Average game at best. Note : I know someone is going to flame me for this, and I will not respond. This is my opinion and not a fact and I will not participate in derailing or explaining my opinions because they are my own and I owe nobody an explanation for all those Nintenden type people that jump to the defense and always want an explanation.

I may be aligning game review more closely with film reviews than is generally the norm, but I can assure you that vaguely-populist Fox News nonsense has nothing to do with it.

@110precentful Star Trek Starfleet Academy Sega 32X , Paperboy N64 which was published by Midway, NBA Inside Drive 2004 for the XBOX, All Star Baseball 2001 N64, America’s Army: True Soldiers for 360, Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law PS2,PSP, Wii / NBA Jam T.E. - ATARI Jaguar, Hunter and Hunter the Reckoning - Multiplatform, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 for PSP, NFL QB Club 2001 for N64 and Dreamcast. Gyrostarr WiiWare, High Voltage Hot Rod Show - WiiWare, Evasive Space - WiiWare. They have made some other games also. Sorry it is not categorized very well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Voltage_Software
Right now I dislike BioWare cause they think they are all that and a bag of chips! One of the founder said JRPGs suck, just because they are a few hot games at the moment! JRPGs are waaayyyyy better! Epic because they also think they are bomb since they have the most popular game engine at the moment. But other than that I can't really say I hate any (that includes BioWare and Epic), other than studios that make crappy games like UFO.
