Obviously, this thread is going to be about generally decent/mediocre (or even bad) franchises (games, movies, books, ect.) that somehow manage to get fanboys.

I'm going to start things off with James Cameron's Avatar. I saw it a couple years ago, and although it had fantastic special effects, it was nothing more than a decent movie overall.

My brother on the otherhand, decided to nerd out over it. Even to this day, every conversation I have with him is Navi this, Navi that. Heck, he hasn't played a video game in over ten years, yet he decides to buy a 360 just for that one game! Seriously, he beat it over a year ago, but he still plays it about an hour each day, and has never attempted to play anything else (Also, we already had a Wii & a PS3, so I have no idea why he thought he needed the 360 version, but he was sure he needed it).

There are people worse than this, though. On the internet, I've seen plenty of people that actually dress up as the aliens (YouTube will bring it up).

So, what franchises do you think don't deserve fanboys, but have them?

Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

Tell that to James Cameron, who is currently counting the money still coming in from the highest-grossing movie of all time while piloting a submarine in space.

Of course every fanbase is going to have fanboys, and we don't really want fanboys in anything. But even now, the Sonic fanbase is still the worst fanbase in gaming.

I don't think it's a bad movie at all, it's just not spectacular. It makes sense that it was a huge sucess though, it had enormously good special effects, and it was uber hyped up, because it took him over 10 years to make the thing.
