Right now, I'm thinking of the movies that been released for the last few years, and I feel like there are many movies with sequels and based off of other popular forms of media such as comics. Overall, I feel like there is less variety in movies compared to the past movies, such as seemingly abundant action-movies. There are the independent films, but I'll exclude them for now.
And so this observation led me to asking interested members the question of whether they feel movies and the industry are stale at the moment compared to the past, whether that's in the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, or this past decade. Thanks for the participation!
Yeah I have posted a comment in one of the news page articles a while ago about the decline in the quality of movies over the last decade so I hear ya mate. I blame common templates set in stone for each genre, stacked actors, CGI and 3D gimmicks and Matthew McConaughey http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/92/Matthew_Mc...
Your right, nothin beats 80s movies, aliens, back to the future, robocop, predator, terminator, some of the starwars trilogy, arnies early movies, films today can't hold a candle to them films, recently I watched devil inside, I was so so hyped for that film and it was total shibato!! Utter dissapointment
Godfather 2 dissapointed me so much I sold my ps3
Who told insomniac they could make games?
Haze really wasn't that bad

So did you want to talk about staleness in action movies?
QUEEN OF SASS
It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!

now theres only so many ways you can branch out a genre or story for that matter before it shares similaritys with other films be it new or old but what really changes is how they go about it and about the comic movies i welcome it, its not like it was exactly flourishing back in the day due to limited Tech but then again i dont exactly get tired of any changes to the movie industry now back then im an action film guy but nowdays i like more stories driven with that action
take for example i enjoy x-men first class more then the other x-men movies at least thats what i think so far anyways but i branch out into other genres
I haven't watched movies in cinemas for years but now I'm actually thinking about going to cinemas to watch some movies like Wreck-it-Ralph, Monsters University and Frankenweenie. As you can see, I'm not really interested in movies aimed for adults. The last time I went to see a movie in cinema was at least 5 years ago.
It's its, not it's.

So did you want to talk about staleness in action movies?
Seeing this makes me realize that I'm focusing too much on the movies. I'm more curious about the selection of the movies and the film industry at this moment, not necessarily the movies themselves. So, I wasn't trying to imply that action movies are getting stale, but rather that there seems to be an influx of action movies for the past years. At least, that seems to be what I'm observing in comparison to a time period like the 80s.

well thats what expendables is, a throwback to the 80's style of action, at least thats what stallone intended it to be anyways or take a look at the Evil Dead Remake made by the same 2 people Sami and Bruce who did the originals, the remake and the direction it is in is how they originally intended to make the movie but due to the lack of proper budget or so forth i dont know the entire reason which leaves the only one distinct seperation of old films and new films and that is charm you get from old movies which would leave some preferring the way it used to be but as tech gets better the easier it is
The whole entertainment industry has been dull for a long. Usually there's a shift in direction about every 10 years or so, and it's been a bit late coming this time round.

The good movies are where they have always been - foreign films and indie-funded work. Nothing has changed.
There is a reason for it (or at least part of the reason) — the film industry (particularly in the US) has been seeing a steady decline in revenue, and as a result, studios are less and less likely to take chances on unknown or original quantities. They'll lean towards sequels, remakes, adaptations of known properties (e.g., comic book movies, book adaptations), and formulaic movies (like a generic action movie or the seemingly endless parade of interchangeable rom-coms) because those types of films are usually guaranteed to bring in a certain amount of audience and money.
I watched the Hobbit in theaters last night, and it was good. But first of course I had to sit through all the stupid trailers. I tell ya, almost EVERY SINGLE ONE had something to do with a futuristic post-apocalyptic earth. Probably the stupidest one was about a zombie teen boy falling in love with a normal girl (gee, like THAT hasn't been done before...) After about the third/fourth trailer I said to myself, "Hmm, I think I see a theme here..."

It's always like this during a recession, unfortunately. It's probably worse now than before because movies have gotten so expensive to make. It'll get better once the economy has improved, though movies being expensive might still lead to some staleness. IMO, at least the movies are still good, even if they're not always coming up with new ideas. It doesn't have to be new to be good, you know. When I run out of movies that are good, then I'll complain. As it stands, I already got 4 or 5 more movies to see this year, and things have just gotten started.

Only one of those I might want to see and only because GLaDOS' voice actor is in it (Pacific Rim). Otherwise it doesn't look that great. Ya, never mind, I just convinced myself out of it.
