Yea but you don't live by that logic if you don't respect these games. You said you live by it but for only games that deserve it. However my quote says respect a game for what it is even if you don't like it. That goes for any game not just for ones you actually like.

Do you seriously think that amazing games like SMG and its sequel are so bad that they don't even deserve any respect at all.

I mean mario party is a board game every board game has luck. You are always hoping to land on some space. However it's still competitive because even if someone gets lucky in a minigame or lucky enough to get a free star you still try to comeback and win.

When you have a game that's as heavily based on luck as Mario Party, the players' actions have much less impact on the game's outcome. Everyone is trying to win, but it's still not competitive because your efforts aren't what determines the winner.

You take down mario party or his sports or his racing game because they were designed how the game is actually supposed to be played. You say the items in mario kart take away from the challenge but that's what mario kart is. It's like mini golf just because they have all these different items doesn't mean it's not a fun little golf or racing game. Plus if you are skilled enough even if you get hit with a blue shell you can come back from it.

If skill was supposed to be the major factor, why did they even put blue shells in?

TheGameMonkey28 wrote:

Like I said the sports games are not meant to be just mario playing baseball. The items come from the mario franchise. Those games just have the basic rules of sports. You just try to score. The items make it fun and if you get hit with one you try to come back from it.

But then there's the luck factor. I'm not saying certain things in video games shouldn't be random. The amount of luck in these games is ridiculous, though. It doesn't matter how well you play when your skill takes backseat to a pair of dice.

I get that but doesn't it take skill to know when to use a blue shell to take full advantage of it. Doesn't it take skill to come back from someone else getting 2 stars in mario party and you actually figuring out which way to go on the board and steal their stars or a star. Yes there is luck but that's a board game.

No, not when chances are it required luck to catch up.

The sequel, no, but yeah, I have no respect for the first game what so ever.

Half-Life 2 is a game I don't like but still respect, because it deserved it in nearly every respect. Dragon Quest is also a game I don't like, but respect because they deserve it. They're actually good games, that don't appeal to me. There's nothing about the Mario games that shouldn't appeal to me, yet they fail to entertain me every time. I have no respect for that kind of game.

I don't respect SMG either don't exactly disrespect it either mind you, but don't see how a game should demand respect its just a game no matter how highly regarded by some.

I have played mario party games against hard computers or good friend competitors who are just beating me but I don't give up I look at my options and try to do better and Sometimes I come back even if I just win barely. It has nothing to do with luck. Yes there is some luck there but I actually figured out when to use a certain item and tried to figure out how to beat someone in a certain minigame.

You don't play monopoly and when someone is fortunate enough to get on a great property you just quit. No you keep playing and figure out what's the best options. Yes the dice are a chance thing to get on a certain space but you fugure out what you can do using skill.

Whether or not you give up, Mario Party boils down to chance in the end.

I'm not talking about the dice. The game is governed by random events that make the player's skill a trivial factor, sometimes even irrelevant.

Mario Party 8 is one of the most frustrating games I have ever played; I cannot find enjoyment in a game where my performance as a player doesn't really matter in the end.

So there's my least favorite Mario game, lol.
