I'm surprised nobody's said this yet, but Final Fantasy VII. Then comes Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year door followed closely by Opoona. I have yet to play FFIX and FFXII, but I own them both.
I like: Chrono Trigger (PS1 remake), this has to be the best classical RPG ever, imo. The Legend of Dragoon (PS1), It's not that good, but I found it charming, and there's been awhile since an RPG absorbed me like this one did. Breath Of Fire 2 (SNES), this one I've really enjoyed, haven't finish it yet, but sometimes I casually play it to do some grinding, just for the fun of it. I also like all the Mario RPGs, but I consider them just comical parodies of the more serious RPGs, just my opinion.
