What's your favorite Nintendo console, and why? For me..........the Nintendo 64 (played heavily from mid 1997 to 2000, when the Dreamcast started to take over)

  • The N64 came out when I was ten, which is a prime time in any gamers life (10 to 15 during the lifespan of the console).
  • Best graphics of the generation (at least in terms of smoother polygons and being able to render large, complex 3D environments)
  • Library heavily favored racing titles and first person shooters, two genres that I have always enjoyed,
  • As a whole, it's gaming library appealed to both younger and older gamers
  • The best console option during the heyday of colorful, 3D, open world platformers
  • Local multiplayer beast, 4 controller ports, first time split screen was heavily utilized, etc.

= Personal favorite games I either owned or frequently rented / borrowed from a friend (Gauntlet Legends, Nuclear Strike 64, F-Zero X, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Command & Conquer 64, Pokémon Snap, Goldeneye 007, Perfect Dark, Battle Tanx, Battle Tanx 2: Global Assault, Beatle Adventure Racing, Doom 64, Wave Race 64, Turok 2: Seeds of Oblivion, Army Men: Sarge's Heroes, Quake 2, Star Fox 64, Super Mario 64, San Francisco Rush, Rush 2: Extreme Racing USA, San Francisco Rush 2049, 1080 Snowboarding, Banjo-Kazooie, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, Harvest Moon 64, Diddy Kong Racing, Mario Kart 64, MRC: Multi-Racing Championship, Rainbow Six, Star Wars Episode I: Racer, Vigilante 8, Vigilante 8: Second Offense, WCW vs. nWo: World Tour and Revenge, Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, Hydro Thunder)

Gamecube because Nostalgia. But honestly, Nintendo has always been better with handhelds, anyways.

As I have become older, this is has become more obvious.........Nintendo portables will still be day 1 purchases for me, Nintendo home consoles, not so much, I have felt let down in one way or the other since the Gamecube era (regrettably I should have given the GCN much more of a chance, but the Wii and Wii U have been somewhat disappointing in comparison to the 360 and PS4, outside of first party titles).

Super Nintendo. So many great games on that system that even now I go back to play.

Wii U, because you can play Wii U games, and games from their past consoles (Atleast the ones that NOA feel like bringing over here). But if you want a specific console and ignoring their backwards compatibility, then the Super Nintendo. Never owned one, but their games are really good, like Super Mario World, A Link to the Past, and EarthBound.

SNES - Still stuff I haven't played that is really good even after all this time. (I have played most of it that I want to but there are still a few games I haven't).

By comparison I have played almost everything on the N64 I want to (Not played Mischief Makers) / everything on the Gamecube / Wii / Wii U. (Wii U has some I might get but I want to play them much less than the SNES games I haven't because they are not as good).

I don't like the sprite flicker that is a notorious problem with the NES. (Or visual artifacts or slowdown).

Wii- This system just has so many great games to play, and every one of them feels unique and immersive. I wish every system would adopt motion controls, as it had such a profound impact on that system's games. I played my top 3 favorite games of all time on the Wii. One of them was for Gamecube, but it was still a memory for the Wii.

Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F

It is true that the third-party lineup in horrid on Wii U, but IMO the Wii U has the best first-party lineup of games on any Nintendo home console.

Really? IMO, it's the worst 2 years in of any other Nintendo system.

Hmm, 2011 and 2012 on the Wii,......it wasn't that good. I know it's somewhat unpopular to say around here, but I kinda agree that the first party Wii U titles are some of the best stuff Kyoto has put out in the last 8-10 years........of course the Wii had Galaxy and Galaxy 2, but a lot of the other stuff was kinda, meh.....nobody looks at Mario Kart Wii, Metroid Prime 3 or other M, Smash Bros. Brawl, and Animal Crossing: City Folk, and says that was the absolute height of the franchise.

Difference is with those titles, they were games you always spent plenty of time playing or replaying (bar other m)

Currently the majority of wii u games die in interest eventually.. pikmin 3 was the only good game that released on the wii u which was well thought out but it was extremely short.. once you beat the game you may play through it once or twice, or the challenge mode stages once each and it's put away for a long long time unlike 2 which players spend days (pun intended) collecting everything and more often than not just exploring those areas even when finished.

I wouldn't consiture remakes like wind waker to be a big thing that added to the wii u. Mario kart 8 atleast gave some kind of online play that family can enjoy.. but mario bros u and such really didn't hold interest. Hyrule warriors looks like it'll be a big hit but it may be a miss in a couple months when non-dynasty warrior fans get bored.

Super smash bros will probably be the next big thing.. and the new zelda u which we know nothing about would give some kind of sequel to previous dominant fanchises. Problem is those came way too late. We have yet to see something.. "innovative?" I guess I'd call it? I'll just say something we never seen before to be safe.. like galaxy was a huge success and held interest in both games (despite being the exact same) and it was something we haven't seen in a mario game before. We weren't stuck with just another jumping platformer on the mario fanchise side, we got something completely out of the ordinary. Wii u I can't say the same yet.. we haven't really seen anything out of the ordinary and pikmin 3 abusing the wii u gamepad was probably the closest to it.

Sorry, I meant 1st two years. 2011-2012 for the Wii is definitely one of the deadest times in Nintendo history.

Maybe it's just me, but with SM3DW, NSMBU (plus DLC), MK8 (plus DLC), DKCTF, Nintendo Land, Wii Party U, WWHD, Pikmin 3, Wii Fit U, and with Smash Bros, Splatoon, Captain Toad Treasure Tracker, Mario Maker and Zelda U on the way, it can't get much better than that. The only things I feel are missing are the Super Mario Galaxies, Animal Crossing, and the slew of Mario Sports games.

Well, I think what's worth pointing out here is with the Wii, GCN, and N64, within the first two years, a title in the following franchises had been released:

3D Mario
Mario Kart
Zelda
Mario Party
Pokemon spinoff

Two out of the three above consoles had:
Metroid
Smash Bros
1080°
F-Zero
Star Fox
NBA Courtside
Wave Race
Animal Crossing

On top of that, the N64, GCN, and Wii also had other killer apps in their first two years (looking at major sellers (>2M) with positive reception)
N64:
Shadows of the Empire
Goldeneye 007
Banjo-Kazooie
Diddy Kong Racing
GCN:
Luigi's Mansion
Wii:
Wii Sports
WarioWare: Smooth Moves
Super Paper Mario

The only thing that the Wii U boasts in opposition to this is a DK game and a 2D Mario, which really wasn't even a thing prior to 2009. I don't really see any way that the Wii U's library stands up to that.

As an aside, looking into this, I saw that in it's first two years, the N64 had a baseball game and a basketball games PUBLISHED BY NINTENDO. I know for a fact that the GCN had an exclusive Sega baseball game (Home Run King), and another NBA Courtside game. What the hell happened? Did Nintendo just suddenly decide that they didn't need sports games with player names in them?

I would say my most played consoles were the Gamecube and the Wii but my favourite has to be the 64.I didn't have it for too long as I moved onto the Dreamcast but some of my most memorable times in gaming were definitely on that old war horse. That was Multi player gaming with friends at it's peak

Gamecube Gamecube Gamecube!!!
Ahem. Gamecube.
-It was my childhood.
-That controller.
-Fantastic games.
-Last console with fun as its primary focus.
-Some 3rd party support.
-Game Boy Advance connection. (Battling my Emerald self on Pokemon Collosseum was a thrill, back in the day).
-Those cute little discs.
-That controller though.

Gameboy Colour loved this console took it everywhere with me, my second favorite Nintendo is the DS Range (DS/3DS etc).

My 3rd favorite console would be a split between the Super Nes and Gamecube to be honest the WII and WII U do not make my list as they have been somewhat of a let down but like others have said this is more to do with what I've now come to expect from a home console and Nintendo refuse to learn from their competitors in this department.
