I know about behind the ferris wheel. That's the way I tried to climb up. It's just a chore and I didn't enjoy playing the game as I'd hoped. $20 I should've spent on Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Old Door.
Obviously we have completely different gaming preferences, because TTYD is one of the worst games I have ever played. I would rather buy three backup copies of Sunshine than that.
The Game.
Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.

...so, is that the reason you hate Super Mario Sunshine so much? You were disappointed with it, and felt guilty that you had passed up a better game for it? If so, I could easily understand it - that's happened to me a lot of times, and most of the time it's left me especially bitter towards that particular game. For instance, I always hated Super Mario Bros. 3 because I passed up StarTropics to get it. In the end, I didn't like it as much as I expected, and began to feel that I had made the wrong choice. Of course, once I got StarTropics, I was able to go back to SMB3 with a more open mind, and now I can actually enjoy it for what it is.
I'm only trying to help you here. To dislike a game is one thing, but to hate a game passionately enough that you feel the need to hate on it at every given opportunity is rather unhealthy.
Just out of curiosity, when was the last time you played Super Mario Sunshine?
...ugh. I really need to stop working so thoroughly on these posts. I've spent so much time on this, and made so many revisions, I fear it may be a bit...confusing, and incohesive.

Okay...why exactly do you think it's the worst game you have ever played? And you're really gonna have to be as thorough as possible there. You might even want to include a complete list of the games you've played(I have a feeling it won't be too long).
It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!

I'd still like to know what the basis of his opinion is(and I couldn't resist making a cheap shot, so sue me ).

If you want a complete list of all the games I've ever played, I'm afraid it could go on a while. The last time I played Sunshine was about a week ago. Despite my hatred I still want to 100% just so I can say I've done all of them. I have 120 stars in 64 and 121 star with both Mario and Luigi in Galaxy.
As for why I hate the game, I now have decided that I'm the opposite of RandomWiiPlayer seeing as he always shows up when I say anything bad about Sunshine. Ask him why he likes it, and I hate it for that reason. Ex. He likes the level design. I find the level design boring and uninspired, not to mention repetitive.
Of course, Super Mario Sunshine is neither the worst Mario game (Lost Levels, 2), nor the best Mario game (World, 64), so you are both too extreme in your opinions.
Thing is though, the level design in Sunshine is very similar to the level design in 64, so not sure why you single out Sunshine for that. There are lots of reasons for disliking Sunshine which make a lot of sense, the always fantastic level design found in the 3D Mario games, that is just as obvious in Sunshine, isn't one of them, however.
The level design may be similar to 64, but every level is themed after the beach and they all look too similar. Only a few, like the ghost house level are any different at all, and even then it's still looks similar to previous areas. People may argue that they couldn't do snow or desert levels because it was on an island resort. That means making the game take place on an island resort was a bad idea if they wouldn't be able to incorporate variety. However, I willing to settle this pointless argument with RWP and say that Sunshine isn't the worst Mario game as long as he says it isn't the best (muhahaha).

Well, they all have a beach theme, but Noki Bay isn't very much like Pianta Village, and Bianco Hills is nothing like Rico Harbour. The levels are still different, look different and play different.
And regardless of what both of you say, Mario Sunshine is neither the best nor the worst Mario game. Simply playing all of the others should make this obvious enough, young Skywalker.

Thorough as possible? This could go on for a long, long time. I'll list some of the things that I hated about it. And for your information, I've played a hell of a lot of games in my lifetime. I'm sorry I don't write every single one down for you. I inventory was terrible, and I hated that you go to some stupid stage to fight. That was such a waste of time. All the members of your party also sucked. And Nintendo tried to make the game funny, when it wasn't. I can't stand when they do that. And the only hard parts were the bosses, everything else was incredibly easy.

Skipped the Gamecube generation, basically. We had one, but I never really gave it a fair shake, I think, because I was angry about my brother selling the N64 to get it. It was also at home, while I was at school, which made it difficult to really play a lot. I WANT to play Sunshine, but just haven't gotten a chance to get through the GC backlog I have, and I'm not sure when I will be able to, unfortunately.
I am way too lazy to think of something clever. My Backloggery
