Male: Shulk (Xenoblade) - I was going to put in Mario, since Mario is my most played as male character, but Shulk's Arts changed my mind. The ability to heal and strengthen allies as well as go on the offensive with amazing attacks provides far more relatable personality than what Mario's power-ups provide.
Female: Samus Aran - I like to look at, learn about, interpret and play as Samus Aran. No character role has given me anywhere close to the level of satisfaction Samus Aran does both from a gameplay and story perspective. I think I've spent more time with Samus Aran than any other videogame character.
@Gioku I was going to put Samus, but now that I remember GLaDOS, I choose her, hands down. Darn it, why can't I think of a good Portal pun right now?

Samus - This includes Zero Suit Samus. Galactic bounty hunter that gets corrupt and explores dangerous planets
Jill Valentine - Stun guns zombies and picks locks
Sabrina(Pokemon) - Has a possessed doll house and tells me to "play with" her on Pokemon Puzzle League
Wii Fit Trainer: She's so fit
Male:
Leon S. Kennedy - He managed to get himself mixed up in the Racoon City incident, on his first day in the force. Performs suplexs on parasite humans, survives explosions, dodges knives, does back hand springs, etc.
Albert Wesker - Dragon Punch and chop kick. Likes viruses.
Marcus Fenix - Shoots now, asks questions later.
Pokemon 2nd and 3rd gen male characters - Has a Pokegear, gambles, and trains wild animals
Majora's Mask Link - looking for a friend, saves a parallel dimension, and transforms at will
Captain Falcon - Falcon punches at over 2000km/h. He wants you to show him your moves and screams while being surrounded by fire, yet isn't harmed.
Slim Bob(Tekken) - He's practically skin and bones.
Robots:
Alisa(Tekken) - A polite but deadly robot with chainsaws and hover technology in her legs.
Mega Man - Has a dog and jump-shoots like a pro.
Ya, I couldn't really name only one... I apologize if the descriptions seem cliche.
