Topic: Every non-Nintendo game isn't a ripoff of a Nintendo game.

I'm pretty sure you had the same problem too. Whenever an game releases, people automatically call it a ripoff of Inset Nintendo franchise. For example, remember Sonic Shuffle for the PS1 & DC? It was a unique party game featuring cards. But of course, people decided that it was ripoff of Mario Party. (Cards wasn't featured in Mario Party till Island tour) Both party games were vastly different from each other. This go to other franchises too. People just assumed that all Non-Nintendo games are a ripoff of something Nintendo. Here's what people assume of when looking at non-Nintendo games:

Halo and futuristic shooters= Metroid prime ripoff
Dark Souls, Uncharted, and other puzzle games= ripoff of Zelda
Racing games= Ripoff of Mario Kart
Party games= Ripoff of Mario Party
Sims and other life simulator= Ripoff of Animal Crossing
Playstation all-stars and fighting Games= Ripoff of Smash Bros and Punchout!™
Klonoa and kiddie games that featured cute characters as the main characters= Ripoff of Kirby
2D & 3D Platformers: Ripoff of Mario Bros and Donkey Kong games
RPG: Ripoff of Mother and Xenoblade
Games where you train: Ripoff of Wii fit trainer
This needs to stop with the community. Every single game isn't a ripoff of something Nintendo. I wish people would stop that. That's like if Digimon ripped off Pokemon. (Digimon came first)

What does this has to do with the Wii U?

@jariw: Wii U forum is also to discuss stuff Nintendo related.

Where does the forum rules say that?

Hendesu

@jariw: Nowhere really, but people just post stuff that are Nintendo involved on here. Plus, why are you asking so many questions? We're getting off topic.

I don't get it. I usually have the opposite impression. That every (new) Nintendo IP is called "Nintendo's take on....". Like Splatoon was "Nintendo's take on Call of Duty" or something.
I hardly noticed what you seem to have observed at all, except it was well reasoned.

I can't see I've noted a problem here like that, but it's important to recognise that there are A LOT of imitators out there because that's what tends to happen when people see something successful: they copy it. I think more generally people need to stop making dismissive posts and stick to the: nothing nice to say, don't say it, rule. Too many people see the need to chime in some negative post and that's it, commenting on games they have no interest in, whatever. It's just noise.

@NightmareEater: Are you primarily talking to children or something? I have never heard an adult compare Uncharted to Zelda. They are absolutely nothing alike. Metroid Prime came out a year after Halo. I have never touched a Halo title and I know this. Simulators have been around since the early 80's textadventures. Honestly I wouldn't even call Animal Crossing a simulator. It's kind of it's own thing......like Radiohead. Most 2d platformers and 3d platformers do take influence from Mario and Donky Kong. Have you ever read a dev log????? Tweet the guys making Yooka-Layle or Yacht Club who created Shovel Knight and ask if they took inspiration from Mario or DK. Once again I have to say in my 25 years of gaming I have never heard anybody say x is a rip off of Mario. I hate bringing my age up because I hate gaming cred culture but that is a long time to never run into the issues you are covering. I remember sonic vs mario fight in grade school vaguely which is why I ask if you are talking to young kids.

Do people rip off Nintendo????? Sure they do. Look at the PS move or Chocobo Racing. Keep in mind Nintendo also rips others off and has since day one. Look up a lets play of Devil World for the NES and tell me what it reminds you of.

The only ones I've ever heard people say something like that was when Halo launched (probably from those who hadn't played the game since it is very different compared to Prime aside from the futuristic setting.) and PS All-stars Battle Royal which is heavily inspired by Smash Bros., but it certainly has some differences. (Where did you hear that about Punch out?)

@yokokazuo: The funny thing is Halo was released a full year before prime. That's a clip from my tldr post above yours.

Yes they are. Nintendo are the pioneers of modern games. You can't play a game on a competitors console without finding Nintendo influence. Whatever games they put out have been done before. Sorry, it's 2015, the world just repeats and recycles itself now.

I am looking forward to an actual reply, not just something similar to your opening post, which is basically "they're NOT the same OKAY?!" without any real substance.

Although, I have to say, the op is pretty baseless, nobody really says any of that stuff, I mean there are notions that video games are not revolutionary at all any more and the hard work was done by the likes of Nintendo 20 years ago, but the op doesn't talk about this at all and seems to just be reacting to trolls. LOL @ trying to say Playstation All Stars isn't a rip off Smash. Don't be such a noob. "Platformers are a rip off of Mario/Donkey Kong" - isn't that absolutely true? I mean, what other platformers are they ripping off? What pioneered the genre? Who created the genre? Who created the idea of controlling a character going left to right? You know the answers.

@faint a whoops, I guess I was writing my post while you already posted yours haha.
Ya I couldn't remember which had come out first, but I do remember hearing people saying something along the lines of "Halo is a copy of Metroid". Kind of funny that Halo was released first though.

We should have a thread where all these people with absurdly twisted views of the world outside their room can post freely and interact with each other. I would call it "Lunatics of the world unite".

Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...

Halo came out first, so that wouldn't even make any sense. People rightly compare the Halo and Metroid Prime trilogies because they're both interesting SciFi FPS with very similar release schedules and power armor.

...Uncharted, and other puzzle games...

lolwut

Dark Souls = ripoff of Zelda

You can't derive Dark Souls from Zelda; it's just too damn unbalanced. Also not muchado about puzzles.

RPG: Ripoff of Xenoblade

I have seen someone call FF15 a ripoff of Xenoblade because it's an open world game, which was a dumb assertion, but it was just one person.

Also, Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, Ni No Kuni, Yo-Kai Watch, Monster Hunter Stories, and countless other games did make the conscious decision to "do a Pokemon." Pokemon just hit upon a really cool RPG concept first, then kind of ran it into the ground.

What's the collective word for a group of lunatics? If it hasn't been decided then I think we should settle on forum, a forum of lunatics.

The collective noun for a group of lunatics is a forum. A forum of lunatics.

I think the problem you're seeing here is that most of these games/series have pretty much invented their genre, hence the comparisons.

Anything like that you hear I guess would classify as "fanboy" talk. There's fanboys from each side, and as was stated above while some games are Nintenduplicates, Nintendo rips off other companies too.

After saying that, I can absolutely see that games such as Sonic shuffle and Playstation All-Stars or Crash Team Racing were all developed with other Nintendo games as inspiration. (Again, this doesn't go one way!)
Films are the same. Nothing is truly and completely and original/
