Seriously, it's annoying how the old timers just declare nothing is good anymore because it didn't come out 20 years ago...

This is my own generation doing this, and i'm only 21...

My interest tends to vary, I often dont play any games for a while, I dont own any HD consoles and its mostly retro games or new versions of old games that hold my interest. I agree that the 90s were a great gaming era, its perhaps nostalgia, but games seemed much more fun back then.

I bought a 3DS though and looking forward to playing the Game Gear again, so not quitting just yet.

Unique as the rest of them...

Do you even know what games I'm talking about?

Doesn't matter, nothing is ever original now. The thing now is to get a game out that does something the others aren't CURRENTLY doing. Then when that becomes current you switch it back.

...you make me cry sometimes. Those games I'm talking about are actually unique. You just refuse to educate yourself.

The 90's were gaming's golden years, its been going downhill ever since.

The only thing that have been going downhill since the '90s is television, IMO. The whole "golden years" thing is a lie. Games are still good, just different.

Back in the day, I would go to Blockbuster to print out pictures I took on Pokemon Stadium!

But, seriously, what about kids today? In their eyes, Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 is our Super Mario 64. Their Mario Kart Wii is our Super Mario Kart. Their Donkey Kong Country Returns was our Donkey Kong Country. Things change and who are we to judge two different eras of gaming without understanding the kids that play today's games and not the games of the past?

This is heavy.

But anyway, it makes me sad that some kids have never played Super Mario Bros. or the original Ocarina of Time. Back in my day, WE had to PAUSE to put on our Iron Boots!

IDK if this counts but I do think gaming is going downhill since the 90's. and the only games I played in the 90's were some sonic, spyro, crash, and a little Donkey Kong Land ok. and Now Ive tried a ton of Nintendo's past games thanks to VC/VH and I like them better then MOST (not all) games now a days just dont live up to that for me.... and this is coming from someone who has Just played a lot of old games just in the past 5 years. so would nostalgia play a factor in my life or no?

At least there is still Virtual Console

And to the question: I haven't ever considered about quitting video games. They're part of my life.
And as there is a lot of talk about kids nowadays and gaming's golden age, I just want to say that I didn't get my first console when I was child, first console I ever got was a Wii but thanks to the Virtual Console and *mulators (which I used to use when I was little without a real console) I have experienced a lot of older games too. I don't really see all that much difference between the older games and the new games although new games use the same ideas as the older games but that's just because it's hard to make up something new in a world of today. Graphics may have taken too big section of gaming but at least there's still Nintendo and few other companies that doesn't forget that a good gameplay is much bigger part of the game.
And now the last words: I like older games and new games, they're equally good, at least for me.

There have been a few times where I considered quitting before realising how much of an idiot I was being and went to play on my wii/DS. It was while since I last had a moronic thought like that so I didn't have a 3DS at the time which is why I didn't include that.
@Kid_crono Lol, that video was great!

Crystalking18

I did and actually did. I was about 12 and I didn't have a wii and it was turning a weird time when I was getting rid of my kiddy games and moving to more mature games. Problem was all of the mature games weren't really on the gamecube. So I didn't play games until 2008, which was about 2 years later, when my brother got a wii. And that ends that tale.

Im not going to be quitting gaming any time soon, but unless the wii u reallys hooks me with a must have game, i probably will stop buying new games and instead collect older games (5th and 6th generation console)

I go through phases of being really into gaming and out for a while but yes I have thought about quitting. I waste a lot of time gaming, yes WASTE. There are plenty of more productive things to do. Even relaxing in a quiet spot is more productive because it takes my mind away from technology which I am engrossed in all day. The brain needs a break and if you are in front of a computer all day your body has no time to wind down. On top of that I could be building things in real life, pushing myself, enhancing my earning potential, keeping in shape, doing yard/house work. I've got too much "stuff" often I just want to get rid of virtually everything. I feel anxious due to "things" looming over my head like the abundance of video game consoles, computers, monitors, musical instruments. I'd like to live a less cluttered life, perhaps keep a single gaming device instead of jumping from Wii, to PC, to iPad, to Gameboy, NES, SNES etc etc. infinity. Sometimes it's time to give things up, so many other people do.

Honestly I'll never likely give it up completely but cutting back a lot is a positive move.

Back in my day, "pokey man" was that creepy old homeless guy who sat outside the 7-11 and talked to the wind while he tried to stab invisible attackers with a popsicle stick.

Actually gaming IS more productive then just sitting in a quiet room because it improves reaction times and hand-eye coordination.
