"“Inside our office, I’ve been recently declaring, ‘I’m going to retire, I’m going to retire,’” Miyamoto said through his interpreter. “I’m not saying that I’m going to retire from game development altogether. What I mean by retiring is, retiring from my current position.”

“What I really want to do is be in the forefront of game development once again myself,” Miyamoto said. “Probably working on a smaller project with even younger developers. Or I might be interested in making something that I can make myself, by myself. Something really small.”"

Thoughts?

It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!

So, not really retiring? As long as he's still involved with development I have no complaints — letting the man focus on one project at a time could yield some pretty interesting stuff.

Could be!

He mentions that he doesn't want to be involved in five-year dev cycles anymore and wants to work with younger staff, which when you think about it is great for Nintendo's future. Let Miyamoto work with the new people and show them the Nintendo ropes while offering guidance and advice that they can then take with them into future projects.

Plus, a potentially more flexible and risk-taking Miyamoto can only be a good thing.

Incredibly misleading thread title. This is the best news I've heard all week! Miyamoto focusing on developing smaller titles with younger developers, or maybe even flying it solo? Yes please

i suppose being in a position where you have to keep track of and manage multiple projects can get very tiring. so it`s no supprise that miyamoto will eventualy step down from that role and let somebody else take over.
i just wonder what he has planned for his smaller projects. i`m sure it`ll be good no matter what.

He's really going to work for Sony on new Vita titles. This is just damage control.

Plain old gamer :)

That would be very cool. Bring him back to his roots and the roots of the company, as they are one and the same.

Well damn. It really is the end of Nintendo as we know it.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

end of an era. I'm cool with this. Both Mario and Zelda are in good hands (Koizumi and Anouma)

I wonder if his new projects will be retail or digital.

The title was very misleading but it would be interesting to see the titles he will develop in these situations and helping out younger/newer devs would be good for the company's future.

Chrono_Cross

Nice title you got there. Just kidding.

Anyway yes this is good news. We'll have to see where this takes him.

Just for you.

He hasn't actively developed a game since OOT so this is exciting.
