Well, I live in (a) California and I can tell you that earthquakes are quite common here. Though we barely feel them.

The only one I have actually been aware of (most happen when I am sleeping or distracted) happened some time ago. I was in school and my desk started to move. The desks are old and can be moved by steeping on the legs so I simply thought it was the person behind me movig it with his foot, but the person behind me felt it too. It was kind of a chain reaction from there, it was funny.

Most of the time we are informed of them in the newspapers or TV. We get all like "Lol we had an earthquake?".

My time in the ring of fire was really right after the most notable quakes. I felt a fair few, sure, and heard even more (often times the windows would shake out of nowhere, but there's be no other discernible effects), but never was I seriously shaken up.

Well actually I was under the impression that California WAS the place where most U.S.-related earthquakes occur. Plus, I LIVE in California. So no, @Fluttershyguy, you're not the only one.

I was present during the rather big Easter Sunday quake that occurred in 2010 in California. Shook me up quite a bit, and my family and I were paranoid of another aftershock for about a week afterward. I was actually working on my Easter-themed minigame on WarioWare DIY when it happened. I finished it a few hours later, but only after much caution.

I also experienced a number of large-scale earthquakes when I traveled to Japan earlier this year in April. I think the most intense one was one that occurred at the train station right after getting off my plane. Shook the entire station, and they even had to delay the ride to make sure the tracks didn't shift during the quake.

We had one in NC a few months back. Was pretty minor, but a great talking point. It really felt like a big truck had driven by the building.

@Magi: did one actually hit NC, or was it just the VA one? that was towards the end of August; i was at job#2 and they were doing some work on a nearby building at the time... we were wondering what the hell they were doing that would be shaking our building too, haha :3

Hey fluttershy, your earthquake was mentioned on the tv here in mexico! (though the focus of the note was the tv crew who freaked out during a live transmition)

I was surfing NintendoLife when the VA earthquake happened in August. I was 100 miles from the epic center and it was pretty horrific!!! D:

I felt the VA one in August. I was at King's Dominion (theme park; second biggest in the world) with my friend and we were about to go on the Volcano when a small boy and girl, possibly brother and sister came up to us. They muttered something about their mom only letting them go on one more ride before they left. We let them cut us and they had only been on for a couple seconds before a sickening SCREEEEEEECH stopped them. They were upside down, about 200 feet up, and they weren't moving. They were up there for an hour before a man with safety gear brought them down safetly. My friend and I just looked at each other. That could have been us.
Meanwhile, my sister was at the mall with her boyfriend. She was in the As Seen On TV store for whatever reason, when the earthquake happened and my sister was bombarded by a shelf of pillow pets. My sister was in panic when her boyfriend came in to save the day by saying "Was that a fat lady running down the hall?" LOLOL!! The store manager kicked them out, angry that my sister "knocked down" her precious pillow pets.
My dad was at work in his big office building (he works for the DoD) when the earthquake struck. He thought it was a terrorist attack. I don't know if before you die, you have a crazy urge to get on your computer, but he sent me an Email saying how much he loved me. When it was over and his TV showed coverage of an earthquake, he just put his head in his hands as if to say "I'm so stupid". LOLOL!

You are correct: It was the 5.8 that hit VA and was felt along a bunch of the east coast.

May've been one of our Tulsa stations that they showed, LOL. I got in on the tail end of it because I was a LITTLE DISTRACTED by the my house shaking! I'll have to look for it now, see how they reacted on live TV

This has been the most insane weather/natural disaster year I've ever seen. Like California and earthquakes, the stereotype for Oklahoma is tornadoes. Yet, the most noteworthy things here in 2011 have been the biggest blizzard the state has ever seen, including record low temperatures. Then, 110 degree heat in summer, one day coming within a degree of the all-time hottest Tulsa temperature. And now two earthquakes. I'd not be surprised to see a tsunami here at this point, LOL (yeah, I know that's the other side of the world, but still... it could happen, hee hee).

We just had another strong one here. 4.7. Oklahoma is the new California. Well, maybe not, but it sounded cool to say.

A 4.7 is fairly big. Enough to do some damage... I think D: Although, I have a terrifying earthquake experience I would like to share. It's about escape, thrills, and bravery. One time, I experienced an earthquake. It was around 1.5. My bedroom desk shook a little. The end.

I was just reading about someone's chimney that was collapsed from one of the other quakes, and that the USGS expects aftershocks for weeks! Me is a bit worried. I'm contacting my insurance company to see if they have earthquake/disaster insurance they offer.

I have been through a couple of shakers here in Seattle. The most recent was a 6.8 back in February 2001. I was taking the elavator down at college by myself and then it started shaking back and forth. I thought the cable had snapped or something and the elevator was going to crash to my doom. Either that or I thought I had been chosen as one of the "Two Great Ones" like Bill S. Preston and Ted "Theodore" Logan as I was going to meet Rufus. When it stopped at my floor I was surprised and was thinking "WTF was that all about?" Then I saw people headed outside and then realized we just had a quake.

Most earthquakes happen around the "Ring of Fire" but Oklahoma has definitely been shaking a lot lately. Odd.

I use to live in Oxnard California and 1 day we had a earthquake but I did not feel it but people around me did, so it was really weird, but I was hoping to feel 1 that was on a large scale but not to big to injure anyone, but never happened. I live in atlanta now and we got 1 here but again it wasn't anything and I did not feel it so oh well, maybe I will feel 1 that's a perfect earthquake to feel but who knows.
