is Ear Muffs a brand name, or are you referring to the kind that go over the entire ear? Personally, I prefer those, because ear bud types kinda make my ears sore after a while, but the over-the-entire-ear kind squish my glasses to my head, which also hurts (but only if listening for a long time at one go). And then the type that hang off of your ears, the only pair of those I had pinched the tops of my ears, which hurt too. I'm screwed no matter which type I wear.

They also have rear bud headphones with small muffs as the speakers, like a mix of both. Those seem cool but I don't own a pair, my standard ear buds are just fine for me.

Headphones all the way.Ear buds aren't "headphones"...

While I normally use the ear buds as they come with most players nowadays, I still prefer the good old "cover the ears" headphones. You can't beat them for sound quality and comfort. I'm with theblackdragon, the ear buds make my ears sore after awhile.
Plain old gamer :)

I prefer the big spongy ones at home, there too bulky when I'm out and about though so I use my Sennheiser CX300 Buds (ear plug type ones) and they are the best small headphones I've ever had. Once you get the right fit of bud the sound is awesome, particularly the bass (listened to the new Kasabian Album on the way home sounded ace). Worst headphones ever are the ones I got with my Ipod nano ,they are s*** !! I mean come on Apple you create a great product like the IPod thats revolutionised the way people listen to music and you go and pair it with headphones that woulnd't be out of place in the POUNDSHOP!! WTF

Ones that completely surround the ears give the best sound because your ear surface has acoustic properties that they make good use of.
Earbuds are nice for noise reduction, but I cannot them to feel comfortable. I prefer Sony EDP-71s; they have a bit that sticks out a little into your ear canal, but basically just rest in your ear like regular iPod earphones. They have great low-end response and don't cost a lot (mine were ~£20 at Argos) and I can still hear the outside world and avoid being hit by cars and such.

I always use Ear Muff headphones. Even though they're big. because they have better sound and they aren't earwax traps like the earbuds.. AND they don't fall out your ears when you drive down the curb with your bike or if you're joggin
Probably getting a Vita with LBP soon...

I use earbuds, I have a pair that fit perfectly into my ears as if they were made for me to use. But I agree that Ear Muff headphones have better sound quality and all that. Too bad my one and only pair's wires broke.

When there's a conflict, I always go with muffs over buds. Good buds will understand.

Muffs over earbuds. I need to get some Sennheiser earmuffs actually because my Beringher Studio style ones are too big for the street and my ipod. Muffs feel comfy and if you get ones with nice padding they don't even squish your glasses. Plus mine block all sound out so I can listen at lower volume.
It's better to have ear-whatevers that block outside noise so you can turn the volume on the player down, saves your eardrums. Bad side is you have to pay more attention because you can't hear cars etc.

Muffs too, don't have many, going to buy a new set soon. However, on trips i use buds since i can share with a friend sitting beside me. However, as of late, the earbuds i have used have created a pimple-ish bump to appear right where the edge of it sits in my ear. I cant pop it either since its inside my ear...so id get an ear infection if i did. its very odd, and only comes from having ear buds. so now im gonna stick to muffs unless theres a trip
