Foregoing the compulsory joke about knowing how to handle a joystick, I'll just say that I appreciate a girl that can play, but prefers to do other things so that, combined, our interests broaden our collective experience and lifestyle.

I like mine being all cute and ditsy when it comes to video games and playing the occasional Wii Sports or Mario Kart every now and then.

Are you really that afraid of losing? ;)

I am.

I'll actually only play my brother in online games I know I can beat him at. And I don't even see him all that often.

If the person I see most on a regular basis ever starts beating me at my own games, I don't what I'll do.

This is definitely part of it too.

I don't even play video games that much any more - mostly because of my girlfriend and another time consuming matter - and having a girl that sits in front of the TV and plays games more than I do seems... abnormal.

I much prefer me playing the occasional game every now and then, and her working out, cooking, cleaning, etc. JUST KIDDING. I much prefer her wanting to go out and do things though rather than be stuck at home. The idea of trying to convince my girlfriend to put the PS3 controller down for a sec to go out to lunch turns me off.

I think it turns anyone off. Having to nag and convince your SO to spend time with you not a good sign.

For the most part I prefer to play games when I have nothing better to do, not as something to do in itself, so it's really irrelevant. It's so happened that all my past acquaintances have enjoyed playing games (to a lesser extent than I, but owning an NES or SNES of their own), but I can't say that playing Nintendo has ever been something I've spent much time on with girlfriends despite mutual interest.

I want a girl who's interested in gaming, but she need not be as into it as I. She can introduce me to her interests and still be handy to play some Brawl once in a while. She does have to be something of a geek, though...just not necessarily a GAME geek.

I still have a basic template down in a friend...just looking for the version who hasn't known me forever and might be romantically interested.

My Backloggery Updated sporadically. Got my important online ID's on there, anyway. :P

I sure hope you don't mean that too seriously, "a basic template." Thinking in these terms is not good. You'll just end up projecting ideas of who someone should be onto who they really are. Relationships are too complicated to predict what exactly you want or need from someone else, even something as simple as whether they play games or not.

Whenever I read things like this, I kinda start to despair.

It's like guys will like you as long as you're inferior to them. You've got to earn less money, be worse at their hobbies than they are, be stupider, etc. You have to be disinterested, unskilled, and ditzy. The minute you show any sort of enthusiasm or ambition, it's a turn off.

It's like guys want to be teachers and don't want to have to learn anything from a girl. The envision themselves as Pygmalion or something, only comfortable when they're the expert schoolmaster and their girlfriend is the apt pupil.

Holy cr*p, Clix. You got all that from that one comment?

We're talking about one life-interest, not life in general, or any of its ambitions in which you (or other ladies) may be far superior.

Please, it's a lazy Sunday. Relax a bit, hun.

@clicketyclick for me, I don't want a girl who is just like me. If I wanted that, I would clone myself and date me. I want a girl who is a completely different side of me. Your significant other is supposed to complete you, not double you. I want a girl who's not a gamer because it's more exciting that way.

Well no, it's not just that one comment. Just the general sentiments being expressed, here an elsewhere, on the net and irl. Removed the quote so as not to single anyone out.

@grensworth - the vast majority of people seek out others who share their interests. Not when it comes to gaming, apparently.

I got 'she doesn't have to be as into gaming as I am, i'll still like her anyway' from what Stuffo said... i mean, bare minimum she's able to play some Brawl and she's got some geeky tendencies; that way they'll at least have some stuff in common even if she's busy introducing him to other things that she personally prefers to do. what's up with the inferiority complex?

@blackdragon - Having to constantly hide my hobby. Either you're treated like a lesbian if you tell them you play video games or you're treated like a casual gamer who's destroying their hobby. :P

Don't despair, fair Clickety. There are exceptions to every general rule in life. I encourage you to be one yourself, and not generalize others based upon what you've experienced so far in it.

Whatever you say, V. The easiest way to impress a guy is still to make him think he knows more than you. Self-confidence is unattractive.

Really? Men act like you're a lesbian if you reveal you play games? Of all the guys I know, it's a plus and at worst a cute quirk. What guys are you hanging with?
@Adam
After scanning the posts I know I snapped to attention when I saw the word lesbian, as well.
