My Dog goes INSANE! When I grab the Collar and Leash she goes crazy and jumps on me and licks me and is so excited. I walk her daily so why is she so excited!?

because she gets to spend quality-time with a human, and also because she gets to go outside and explore. at least, that's how i always figured it, lol. there's also the small chance they might get away from you during their walk

My neighbor's dog always wants to walk when I petsit. His owners don't walk him regularly (actually, they don't walk him at all!), so whenever I come over, he runs over toward the leash and barks and whines until we walk. He won't even sit still when I put his leash on! I believe dogs get excited for walks because they love the open world, the sights, the smells (which are more keen than a human's), and the fact that they can finally relieve themselves.

I'm back (for the moment)!

Sure. All dogs go crazy for walkies. One of the best things about dogs is it takes so little to make them happy.

Yes, sometimes too excited. Down, Orlick, down!

Dog's enjoy being introduced to new surroundings, therefore a walkie announcement may excite a dog.

You couldn't say the word "walk" at my neighbour's house or the dog would go berserk, so you had to spell it out, but eventually the dog even started going berserk when you said the letters.

If there's a dog that doesn't get excited about walks, it might be defective.

Me: "Wanna go outside?
Dog: "I GOTTA PEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!"

That's why dogs are excited to go for walks.

You haven't met my basset hound. He loathes walking. I walk him maybe a half a mile and I drop him off at the house to continue walking the other dog.

@StuffyStuff: lol, he really doesn't like walks? we had a basset hound when I was little... she loved to get out the front door and all the way down the street, but she'd always be so tired that we'd have to carry her back afterward, hahaha.

That'd be my rat terriers in a nutshell. Our small one (Yoda) barks a lot while the larger one (Vader) will wimper and run. When we arrive at the park, we let Vader run into a small wooded area and Yoda immediately pees. Vader will react the same way when he sees a squirrel or chipmunk running. He's pretty fast (somewhat close to greyhound speed) and could probably catch one if trees didn't exist.

This dog of mine walks lazily behind and if I walk him too much I have to drag him home. He sees the house and he's making a run for the back yard. Bassets are totally cool but incredibly stubborn

Just out of curiousity, when you walk your dog, does she tend to run out in front as far as her leash will allow, does she stand right next to your side, or does she tend to trail behind?

Walks really tie in to a dogs pack mentality (instinct) and they are NECESSARY for a dog in order for it to be happy. Dogs are travelers by nature and going for walks not only help them physically, but they also help them mentally.

Also, a tired dog is a happy dog. This is even more true for puppies.

My dog is kinda lazy so at first she acts like: "It's too good lazing around in my cozy corner" but then she gets up because she still likes taking a stroll a lot. It's just not as fast en energetic as it used to be when she was younger. She's getting older and sometimes you need to say it loudly otherwise she doesn't hear you.

Think I should probably take the sleepy thing for a walk right now.
