Topic: Does it Make Sense to Be A Wii Fan These Days?

Now I'm not saying I don't like my Wii or I hate being a Wii gamer. But to be a "fan" the same way these xbox 360 guys are? There was a time, as a kid, when I would actually get in a fight if someone said Sonic was better than Mario. That's how much of a fan I was. But I'm not entirely sure if Wii even want to show their pride in their console of choice these days, it's not only embarrassing but it doesn't seem on par with the Wii users around me. I don't know about you guys, but the majority of Wii users around me are married guys, younger kids, parents, and generally casual gamers. It just doesn't mesh. Anyone else see a reason to be a fan anymore?

Anyone else see a reason to identify yourself so strongly with your preference towards a consumer electronics device? I don't understand these "fan" arguments. I like playing wii, but I would say I'm a wii fan but not so much of my identity hinges on it that I feel the need to debate with myself whether or not I should be a real fan. If they stopped coming out with games I enjoyed, I would stop being a fan. If I just got bored with it, I'd stop too.

Silly consumerist culture.

I am way too lazy to think of something clever.

I like a lot of the games Nintendo makes, but its not a sport to me, I have no reason to pick sides, and find it ridiculous people do.

Why try to pigeonhole yourself into a label stereotype? You can be a Wii fan and not pick fights and be a jerk about it, and if someone else wants to try and start something because you dared to like something they didn't, they're the ones with a problem, not you. No big deal.

Also, I don't understand the last part of your comment, where you begin rattling off Wii users. Are you embarrassed to be playing a system that "married guys, younger kids, parents, and generally casual gamers" also play? Are you that insecure with yourself that you need to be playing something that only macho, super-manly men and buxom, bodacious babes play, because then it will reflect on you and (obviously) mean that you are also either a macho, super-manly man or a buxom, bodacious babe? I don't understand the logic there. :/

I play video games because thats what I enjoy. I could care less if I am classified as a fan, hardcore, casual etc. etc....

i think youre reading too far into whether to be a nintendo fan or not. you shouldn't dislike the console because of the people who play it or how much "pride" nintendo takes in it. you should play a console solely if you like the games or not

Makes more sense to be a Wii fan now than it did two years ago. The Wii is a fantastic system, with a library that really appeals to me (as I'm not concerned with FPS and Sports titles all that much). For ME it makes sense to be a Wii fan. And even if it didn't, it wouldn't stop me from being one.
